@zippsub9 This may be some good news. Need to call them but on the ECGS site:

Our NEW or RE-MANUFACTURED differential units carry a 5 year warranty on all new parts i.e. bearings, ring and pinion, shafts. This is a parts and labor warranty.

I debated for a while on 4.56’s. No doubt it would be peppier, I drive a bit at higher speeds so I didn’t want the higher rpms if I could avoid it.

Well this may pose some problems: with a stock Toyota motor

That leaves a lot to interpretation...

If a new truck came from toyota with the blower installed and covered by the factory warranty.....i would call it a stock toyota motor.

The e-locker differential does not have the bearing cap trusses like the non-locked trucks. So naturally it is weaker by design compared to non e locker models. And ur truck will deffinitly tax that design. Honestly I would rec swapped to a non e locker setup or some other axles. Up to you doe as its ur truck.

Got it. def aware it's a weaker setup. long term that will have to happen. For now, that is much more involved, and need a running truck here in the next month or so. If ECGS does it then ill have that for now but def something bigger in the rear and a different setup overall is needed.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I was more informed when I was used truck shopping. I opted for the OR thinking it would have the beefier rear end with the elocker vs the lsd of the Sport models.

I didnt know that 8" rear of the OR was weaker than the 8.4" of the Sport. And I didn't know I wouldnt be able to install a truetrac in the 8" either and would need to convert to an 8.4".

    Learning the hard way.....

Exactly. We are running far beyond stock Toyota motor powers and the majority of us, especially you Robert are running power levels comparable to an LS1/ LS2 V8 at this point.

None of us are close to stock anymore.

I remembered reading about that in the brochure when I was buying my truck. I saw the Sports had a larger rear end so I was like okay not only do I like the way the sport looks, but it also has a larger rear end, sure it may not have the eLocker, but I'll compromise and go for the larger of the two all around. I'm making the right choice here.

To be clear this isn't anyones fault (minus whoever designed and approved that e locker diff) this is just the cost of modding. Build, break, improve, and repair. Then repeat.

naa its Toyota's fault. for whatever reason they think a diff designed for a 100hp truck that barely weighed 3000lbs is good for a truck that has 236hp and 4000lbs+. even the first gen tundra had the 8". both those trucks should have the 9.5" out of the LC

Dats y I said whoever designed and approved of the diff. Has to go though many hands at Corp to be implemented.

I went with the off-road before having any of these mod aspirations and wanted the locker plain and simple. did I need it? not sure but I'm in the camp of better to have it when you need it than not have it. If had known what I know now my front end would be LT and I would have a sport with a bigger rear end or easier to swap rear and diff brake setup which I can upgrade. a lot of ifs and shoulda woulda but cant make a better truck if you don't break some shit along the way. Just wish it had better timing ha

You’re just getting the receipt here, honestly. Might be another one coming soon if you just opt to put your ticking time bomb back together. With tires that large and heavy and your truck that pigged out you need a bigger axle. Why even spend money on anything else if you can’t reliably drive to the grocery store?

yah to your point someone was likely looking at the cost of the locker and the diff and said we need to make this cheaper or something and that's how we ended up with the smaller one. The newer ones have bigger ones as they learned their lesson but having the LC rear end would have made the most sense or a shortened tundra axle

I put the SR5 rear axle with 4.10 and bearing trusses in my TRD OR when I blew the diff in the desert (from shock loading) and added a Harrop locker. Still wish I would have gone Ford 9” and my truck is only 4,600lbs

right now its timing. I need the truck back and operational in the short term and if the diff is covered under warranty then there is little cost involved. I can do the work myself so no labor cost. Long term you are 100% right the rear needs to be beefed up big time. I will need to map out what I want to do and how. The current setup was done before the S/C, before some of the extra weight and when it has smaller tires.

Short term I need the shortest time and lowest cost faster but need to map out changes this year.

Next is going to be what options for the rear. Currie no longer makes the F9 for Tacomas so that's likely out, Dynatrack, Toyota Tundra or LC any other recs I'm sure ill dig into this after I recoup from the super pacific X1 and hopefully not too bad on the rear end.

From my experience its mostly packaging secondary to cost and tooling. Of course everything nowadayz is about using moar sensors and brakes to simulate a lsd or a locker. Manufactors are only going to go as far as to what the consumer is going to pay.
