Seems small, at least initially on paper. I don't feel like any one decision necessarily breaks a truck on weight but more the cumulation of several of these small sacrifices snowballs into a much larger issue that is more difficult to address. In all my vehicle builds, weight is enemy #1.

Diminishing returns on unsprung weight and rolling diameter. Here was my path.
    295/75r16 Hankook dynapro MT 65lbs

    315/75r16 Goodyear Duratrac 67lbs

37s most likely require a jump to 17" rim's, so add 6lbs at least to overall rim weight.
    37x12.50-17 mastercraft MXT 70lbs

I hear you ya on that. I'm going through that right now. Weight is beating this truck up.

At the time I bumped it up to 17" when I could not get my hands on some 16's then ended up going with bigger brakes and more tires selection never did think much of the rim weight. Also went wider which added 3lbs 11oz per wheel then went from 285/70/17 to 315/70/17 which increased the eight big time. 285 Ko2s are ~58lbs where the 315 KM3's are ~74lbs that's one heavy tire for the size. if that math is right almost 40lbs per tire increase or 4x40 = 160lbs overall. Going with a tire in the 60's although not much lower but as noted would make a big difference. I contemplated the Kenda's or going back to a Ko2 (315 is almost 10lbs lighter at ~64lbs). for some reason, I thought the KM3's were 68 or so unless they updated weights.

Anytime you can reduce rotational mass you gain horsepower. I think your math on 74lbs is more accurate from when I did the same last year. As I have 35/12.50/R17 km3's myself they are indeed beefy bois at 74lbs according to Amazon. Also have a 5th on a rear tire swing. No road noise that I can notice unless I corner real fast so they have been a dream tire. Great for daily and grips very well off road. Some complain they don't last long but I only have about 5k miles on em so far.

KM3 are heavy (and not even the heaviest) but for good reason. Smoothest rolling MT and uses the least amount of balance weights in the class. Not a fan of ko2 since they collect the elements better than they shed. But consider the switch if the terrain calls for it. Also maybe try for a 2 piece floating brake rotor with aluminum hat or forged wheels to shed some additional weight.

I have been considering that. since we are rocking the same brakes have you found a 2 piece that swaps in? I have a set of DBA rotors I was going to use but if we can slot in some 2 pieces I would consider that. I thought about getting willwoods but the setups for the tacoma are the forged light versions not the Aero6 or Aero6-ds Yah overall the KM3's are smooth and solid just heavy.

I was about to get some of the DBA's myself. :)

I'm not aware of any 2pc stock size rotors for our application. Would be interested to hear if any were available however!

Yeah those DBA4000 are really nice, I have been waiting to wear down the stoptech rotors I have first. @jamesepoop and I are running Wilwood Areo6-DS mated to 4runner rotors so looking basically for a replacement rotor for the 338mm TR4. I wonder if the offset would be different on the Wilwood version by much. I noticed recently that my rotors do not go to the top of my pads and will need to be shimmed and can possibly run 340-342mm rotors no problem but that's an expensive lets test it out option.

If we could run these rotors which are for the Superlite that would-be killer.

Does anyone know if any diagrams like this for Tacoma/4runners for clearances exist? This should help identify if some of the 2 pieces would work or not.

nice! Yah the GX (Prado) uses the same or similar to the T4R but there are 2 versions but these look like the right ones. There is a 28mm and 32mm version. if these are the same as the GX setups then it likely it should work. Pricey but yes likely yes. I had been doing some searches but had not seen these.

@jamesepoop and I are both running Wilwood Aero6-DS that was set up on a config to work with T4R rotors so looks like a perfect fit. Def great find.

The SOS Performance 340mm BBK with the Stoptech ST-60 caliper also uses the 340mm rotor found on the newer T4R and GX.

SOS use to have the option to use Stoptech Aerofloat 2 pc rotors in their kits. In fact, they list the rotor ring still. Maybe SOS has the rotor hats...and if they do, this aerorotor 2pc rotor *should* be a direct swap onto your wilwoods, right?

    https://sosperformance.com/products/stoptech-aerorotor-drilled-ring-with-zinc-plating

(Sorry, i noticed its still an iron alloy setup. Probably no weight reduction)

Even the CEIKA are IRON but that is the ring. The hat you get the weight savings. I think it was 3-4lbs from OEM on some comments. the newer T4R and GX is 338 so they likely are rocking 340 which is slightly bigger then the OEM size but based on my setup i need to shim or get 340 as its not catching all of the pad on top.

Def looking forward to the DBA but if I can offset some of the rolling mass by knocking it down on the brakes that should help in theory but is it worth it. DBAs are ready to go on soon
