TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Speaking of VVT, it's my belief actually that several of us have defective VVT valves and or the screens for them on the side of the heads are clogged.

I have had an odd very intermittent hard start issue/ hesitation at take off/ what feels like a cold idle misfire for a long time now and everything has always checked out good. Eventually at some point here I'm just going to pony up and replace both valves and delete the screens and call it a day. That should eliminate all of these intermittent demons I have been dealing with for years now.

 

The last tune he sent was a "try, then report back" I owe him an updated recording for him to take a look at. I didn't realize all of that was visible through the data logging.

 

I took the "new" gasket off and noticed soot on the bottom of the exhaust ports! Reused (yes I know!) the original metal gasket with some Permatex, I'll start her up tomorrow and hope for no leaks

if you still have emissions stuff on it could be that. i had it. from header install an emission cross pipe gasket fell out of place when finishing. learned it after a bit of head scratching.

 

funny you say that, just last week started getting a hesitation on cold start, almost as if the transmission was stumbling, well, long story short, driving home from a off-roading trip yesterday truck cut power, p0011, soo pulled over to the side of fwy, cleaned vvt screen and vvt ocv, all good now. None looked dirty but cleaning them did the trick. All good and no more hesitation on cold start

 

I can't remember if there is access with the blower installed but are you capable of removing the VVT solenoids with the blower still on?

 

Fortunately yes, it’s all the way forward of the engine, for me, just removing the intake tube was enough to gain access

 

After a 24hr cure check on the Permatex, the truck is operating normal! No more loud, obnoxious, "motorcycle" sound.

 

The screens are a different story, however, as far as I know. How did you remove clean those out without turning it into a full afternoon project? Those are supposed to be on the side of the heads, and one you have to move the alternator out of the way for access as far as I know.

 

screens are easy to get to from the wheel wells.

 

the passenger side is doable without anything extra being removed, the code was for bank one, soo i only cleaned the passenger side screen, all by feel, but it’s nothin extra to remove, the drivers side however, yea it looks like you would have to drop the alternator to get to it, I didn’t mess with that one.

 

I'm going to have to just shotgun and replace both solenoids and remove both screens and call it a day. I'm sick and tired of the mild hesitation, and the myriad of other issues that the computer for some reason has never picked up.

EDIT: I found them. Nevermind. Ooo.. a fix offered AND more horsepower. I think I may just do it!

 

I am on two weeks with the new AEM 320 fuel pump and I am going to say that the DW was definitely the cause of the starting issue and now what I didn't know was my AFR being all over the place under boost. The truck starts faster, every time, and the power is so much more smoother. And in boost, the AFR richens up and stays way more stable rather than bouncing around, which I just thought was normal. But now, I want the Quantum solenoids. LOL
