    HP Tuners / Transmission question
Can I skip a shift kit / valve body modification and just bump up line pressures/tune the trans?

Any recommendations for where to buy a Wilwood kit? Best price I've found so far online is from

    https://www.cspracing.com/wilwood-1...-w-lines-05-15-toyota-tacoma/wil-140-14577-r/

    + another 5% off.

I see that most, if not all places show Shipping Direct from Manufacturer. So probably a couple days + shipping. Just curious if anyone knows of a place that might have them in stock or has a guaranteed time frame for delivery? My truck is still at the shop getting everything fixed and replaced from the accident. Ended up getting both spindles (TC Gusseted) and wheel bearings replaced. Was planning on doing the BBK upgrade soon, then all this BS happened.. so now I'm looking into just doing it now. Would be nice to find somewhere I could get them in sometime this week.

If you're not stuck on Wilwood, take a look at the StopTech offerings. I think the 4-piston would be good for you unless youre 6000lbs+.

I like the StopTech BBK I have, although I don't recommend the 340mm 6-piston for those unloaded... I'm ~5500 pounds "empty" - as in camper, but no water/firewood/gear/fridge contents) and I can lock up the front brakes at 60mph if I really stomp on it.

The 4-piston is probably great for you. https://sosperformance.com/products...sion-with-parking-brake-fits-2005-2015-tacoma

I appreciate it.. I originally was going to go with Stoptech, but after talking to more people and just getting reviews on both, I'm going to go with the Wilwood. Plus, I will definitely be 6k+ once I get the camper and rear bumper. I'm at ~5600 now..

I personally wouldn't do it because yeah the software can handle the increase of pressures but the physical hardware (ie springs and smaller orfices) are not designed to properly utilize the increase in those pressures. Too much of a roll of the dice. I would do it properly the first time and modify the hardware before you modify the software so they can both coincide and function in harmony together.

Funny I have Willwood now and after talking with SSO I am considering switching to Stoptech as they supposed to have better heat dissipation. What feedback made you decide to go with Willwood over stoptech? I just picked up the rear BBK stoptech kit as well. I am HAF so def need all I can get.

You can also consider the RR Racing kit which uses the higher end Aero-6 calipers and T4R sized rotors 338 vs 340. I have this kit now which opens up for way more rotor options. I have a set of DBA4000 rotors I was going to put on.

Bring up the trans cooler discussion.

What are the best 2-3 options for an upgrade trans cooler? Are there any kits available? first see if there are easy PNP mount kits available before I go down the route of making something.

Benefits of bypassing the radiator and going direct to the transmission? Based on the feedback I've seen so far most replace the stock one rather than daisy chain another.

What the coldest we want our trucks to run 170/180?

Just spent the last week driving around baja and was seeing 220-230 and at rest it was climbing too much for its own good. I do need to reseal the shroud as my bandaid likely is run its course but now need to upgrade the cooler and get the e-fan setup.

There were a couple local guys who's opinion I respect that recommended Wilwood after years of using them. (Customer service, available and rebuildable parts, etc) But also I just liked their History and Time in the game. Also talked to some Reps out at King of the Hammers back in February and looked at the Tacoma kit first hand. I really liked it and it's Quality.

BUT.. then there's you.. who says otherwise. So.. yeah. Idk..

I guess what's the Lead Time on an SOS kit? Looking like a few weeks for a Wilwood kit from anywhere.

..the Wilwood kit is $800 cheaper too, from my findings anyways.

Just a lot of small parts that are potentially easy to lose. It's not hard at all if you know how to follow instructions, anyone can do it.

You may want to adjust your temperature fan turn on settings to 150 and bring down the max to around 230 that gives you an 80* temperature swing and by the time you reach 200 that fan will be screaming pretty hard.

I have nothing on trans cooler recommendations. Unfortunately, despite all the time we have had these trucks out on the market I haven't found anything wildly worth recommending. The options are barren though. Everything from Derale to Hayden. The E-fan alone should be a big help though if it's dialed in correctly.

Wilwood makes straight QUALITY stuff. The fact that they are cheaper then Stoptech and that they are THAT good at what they make only further incentivizes swinging for one of their kits for you are in the market Robert. +2 recommendation for me.

I have no experience with Wilwood's Tacoma kit, but I put their AERO6 (front) & AERO4 (rear) Big Brake Kits on my GT500 a couple of years and 6K miles ago. I remain happy with their performance and appearance.

The best deals I found at the time were thru THMotorsports and Autoplicity.

IIRC, @JuanitoBunito went with Wilwood when he upgraded his Tacoma's brakes. Maybe he'll chime-in with his experience...

I purchased my set through thmotorsports. I got them in a Black Friday deal which saved me some dough. I’m very happy with their performance and felt the difference immediately. I’ve also had wilwoods on a Nova I had and was very pleased then as well.

lead time is like 2-3 days. Also, there are always deals You can even upgrade to the 2 piece rotors which will save on big weight for 2k no 2 piece then it's around 15-1600 so price-wise its about the same.

I was in the same boat as I recall them in a lot of builder cards and hot rods. they set up their calipers to be mounted in different ways for custom projects which is nice.

But yeah from SOS I hit them up since they deal 100% in Toyotas so figure they know their stuff well as well. I was going to order the Wilwood rears but last-minute picked up the stoptech rears. All my emails to SOS have been great and they have even offered to replace to send as needed. Wilwood has also been sold but won't be a direct response from the owner either.

I think prices on many just went up as well. Used to be able to get the Stoptech kit for 1600 but now it's 1800 (with one of the said coupons noted before). Similar price to the Wilwood kit. For a $400 more you can get the 2 piece rotors.

Honestly prob cant go wrong with either but I kept seeing mixed reviews of willwood on other forums. I still bought them and they have been great.

don't get me second-guessing my choice to swap haha

Don't go too fancy and don't overthink this too much.

Don't go cross drilled because those can lead to big issues and do your best to stay away from slotted because you can get junk in the slots which will lead to damaged rotors with the extra heat you can develop from that junk or just damage the entire face from whatever got lodged in those gaps.

I know you like to wheel so the more one piece and solid your rotor is, the better. Ever hear the saying, "less is more?" In your case I think the saying fits perfectly. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want racecar brakes then to utilize the most of it you will have to upgrade to racecar tires to utilize the grip better of that stopping power, with saying that you don't have to have perfect vision to see what happens as a consequence of that, you can't wheel. So.. go BBK if you'd like, but keep your eye on the relevancy of your build a well, too fancy, you are just wasting your money, too minimal, you would just be wasting your money as well. Fine balance.

That's just my two cents, everyone's got some coins. I'll go piss off now. Lol.

ha I've always ran slotted on trucks and cars never dealt with cross-drilled for many reasons like you noted. Slotted is great for big heavy trucks too but does have a chance to stuff but never had an issue. I've had my willwoods on for some time for me it was a debate of swapping over to stoptechs.
