TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

What do you think failed to make it loud again? I welded these in but if I need to next time I’ll have Vbands put in so I can swap new ones in as needed

 

as pictured i have one, trimmed for the same gauges you have, WITH a grab handle trimmed to fit the best it possibly can be. note the trimmed top in the pic i posted. its only down side. i cut it for my methanol controller wiring. pm me if you care to buy it.

 

They dont have a dual gauge A-pillar pod but they are willing to make custom designs.

I’m not sure, I just remember thinking the exhaust was super quiet at first and then gradually became annoyed by it again. It may have just been my imagination. Your mileage may vary!

 

this exhaust optimum/audible debate is different per application. i am on the end of the spectrum. louder the better for performance. my dd has headers, no cats, and a shoebox sized muf with a V-8. best not ask me if something is loud. im looking into a sidepipe for the taco.
but i do respect those that dont want to set off car alarms in parking lots.

 

It’s all subjective. My hearing is toast from years of loud music, loud exhaust and working in an automotive shop. Trying to preserve what little hearing I have left and to be able to have a conversation with my family as we travel along.

 

i get you. ive made my carreer with protecting my hearing. unfortunately i hear so well i cant sleep. but i still love throaty pipes.

 

Exhaust is such a subjective topic. I personally like a fine balance between loud enough to appreciate, but still not loud enough to interfere with my personal thoughts as I drive down the road with the windows up, and the conversations I have with my loved ones or friends while I am either on the phone or they are in the truck with me. When I say loud, I am describing tone more than volume at this point. Fine balance.

The best way to eliminate drone and undesirable exhaust audible decibel levels is to extend your piping run after your muffler(s) as much as you can. Things like dump offs will affect it naturally, as they cause the exit to point directly at the solid ground, chambered mufflers will cause undesirable drone at certain RPMs, but sound great. The better the muffler design, the less chances of achieving drone, but great tone.

I personally am very happy with my setup and if I could change it to something else given the opportunity, I absolutely would not. It checks off all of my boxes and much like @loginfailed I have sensitive hearing these days, and I think my tinnitus is partly to blame for it.

 

I don’t mind loud at all personally. However the rasp/resonance I had was just awful. Nothing about it was ok, decent, or acceptable for driving in any conditions. If I had another daily driver, the truck woulda sat until I got it corrected. Anywho, I’m glad it’s done

 

on the topic of exhaust- do resinators wear out? im thinking like a rebuildable 2-stroke bike muffler that needs the inside swapped. its obvious they are sealed units but im clueless whats inside. example- truck runs rich, do they plug up?

 

respect your reasons. im very pleased with the sound wrap i put in the cab when i did my audio. id say much quieter than stock......inside the cab. outside is another deal.

 

Not typically unless they fall apart internally or the cats tear apart and make their way to the back, but even then, usually the clog occurs at the catalytic converter outlet itself.

 

Yeah, the soot ends up building up and reducing the effectiveness of the muffler/resonators. That’s probably why @loginfailed said his changed. I don’t think it totally reduces effectiveness, but it can significantly impact it. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, but just be aware of.

 

so just update exhausts systems every trans flush.

 

That is true^^^ As well as the environment can blow out the packing material. Depending on the quality of construction material/design.

www.burnsstainless.com has rebuildable mufflers/resonators just for that reason.

www.ticonindustries.com or www.stainlessbros.com has build your own.

 

Over time with that packing blown out it will affect performance since it changes the frequency attenuation. Generally if your muffler or resonator is of high quality I would not worry about it much. Cheap one like my old banks muffler won't last long with spirited drivers.

 

We found the packing in his mentioned above, to be sliding back and forth in the canister.

I have had a Magnaflow do the same. Those aren't jabs at the brands, but rather points of experiences.

 

How much modding would it take to fit a 3rd Gen TRD exhaust on a 2.5 Gen? I assume it will not be a direct fit.
