Well, actually it was @Murphinator that started it up for me. Him and I maintain it and run it now, but he carried over all the information from this thread to there.

Just get a hose that fits tighter on the nipples and you are good to go.

So this is my first time with a supercharger so I'm not familiar with the noises. 4.0 TRD SC.

At idle I can hear a sort of whistle, kinda sounds like the belt or something spinning, maybe a bearing on a pulley or some? not like the whine when it's boosting.

When shutting down it also seems to do a noise like maybe something is knocking?

Changed the SC oil and it looked pretty good.

    SC has @10k miles.
    Truck has 60k miles.
<1k miles with the supercharger installed.

Are these noises typical? Or do I need to start digging deeper to see if I can find something going on?

    Please excuse my ignorance

Very typical. All part of owning a blower. Welcome to the boost club. It's a noisy one to be in. Literally. Lol.

Haha man it sounds cool but it's one of those things I'm not sure if it's cool or if it's about to blow up

    Thanks for the response man.

While I'm asking questions, might as well see if you guys might know what this switch could be for?

I bought my truck in 13 with 10k mi on it. This switch has never did anything but I never investigated. Wanted to add a switch for my gauges and decided to look around and realized this thing has a harness going over the the passenger side not doing anything.

It looks similar to the unichip 2 way map selector, but there's nothing else that would make me believe this thing had a tuner before I bought it. ECU and everything seemed untouched.

Anyone seen something like this or have something like this??

Agreed it looks like a Unichip map selector. You may be able to reuse the switch but probably just as easy to measure and find similar one that fits in there. Should be cheap enough to replace it.

I know everyone’s set up and locations are different but I was wondering what ignition timing are your trucks at? I forgot what mine is on the top of my head, I think was at 12 degrees i believe  or something and but I thought it was pretty low.

12deg would be quite low. Sounds like you've got some knock.

What advance you run is largely going to depend on the load/RPM at which you're running. See below for stock TRD S/C ignition mapping.

I have to confirm what it was lol but yea I think it was a really low number at WOT I did mess with my maf calibration, and I was told it would pull back timing too. When I did tune my truck years ago I didn’t pay attention what the timing was to compare

If you pulled back the MAF voltage to trick the ECU into leaning the mixture out, you'd have more timing than stock as that will artificially lower the calculated load %. That is probably why you're knocking.

One reason I am not a fan of signal manipulation for tuning when access to the actual tables is available.

So it’s not as aggressive but it’s “safer” I guess.. which I don’t mind if this is the case, I don’t think I’m knocking. My maf voltage is a bit high due to a bigger diameter intake tube which works out I think lol

There's only a few select reasons the truck would run less timing than what's in that map, and the #1 reason is knock. Just because it's low doesn't inherently mean it's safe, especially when it's targeting a higher advance than you're running currently. The second thing, is a larger MAF housing would lower the MAF voltage, as you're physically bypassing more airflow around the sensor decreasing the proportion of airflow measured relative to the air charge.

    Just my 2¢

you are right that you are by passing around the sensor, that is why it’s thinking it’s not sucking much air. So I needed to up the voltage to compensate that. I hope that explains it

I’ll confirm with my degree of timing. It could be 18 lol it’s been a while since I looked. Thanks for the table, that really helps!

Here's a neat little trick for us cold climate folks. At one point, Toyota installed thermostats on the throttle bodies of various vehicles. These CUT OFF coolant flow at about 181F/83C, thus keeping the throttle body warm enough, but not overly so.

There are two different versions, and I believe they should be installed on the coolant outlet. This will take a bit of design work, but it shouldn't be horribly difficult.
