I think shaving ~5lbs per corner with lighter wheels will make a difference in pep, but one I would have trouble noticing by feel. There are some old drag racer dudes that have a rule of thumb where 1lb of rotational weight is roughly equivalent to 10lbs of stationary. Following that, changing the wheels out would make the same difference in acceleration feel as losing a 200lb passenger.

The physics is slightly more complicated and relates to moment of inertia. MoI takes into consideration how far the weight is from the center rotation point; the further from the middle the bigger the difference it makes. I would expect losing 5lb of wheel to make less of a difference than 5lb of tire because of where that mass is located. If you happen to know what adding or losing 5lb of tire feels like that would give you a reference point.

There's also the sprung vs unsprung weight argument. I don't have a comparison for that one though.

I dropped 5lbs per corner when I went from stock wheels to the F5s and it was definitely noticeable. More pep and better handling.

I just wish I could find an OEM spec wheel in 17x7" or 17x7.5" with the correct offset less than 20lbs. All the aftermarket options I have found force you to an 8" wide rim at minimum.

You need a tire machine. I have 37x12.50x17 on my 17x7.5" rims. Find a good latino tire shop, zero fux, work fast and deal in cash.

I'm confused... I only have 32's and am not going bigger. I want to go from these 29.2 lb 17x7.5" FJ Cruiser OEM wheels to something near 20 pounds without going to a much wider rim. I'm running 255's, so a wider rim is not helpful at all.

This. That's how I mounted a questionable spare on a wheel.. but it's perfect for a spare.

I understand. Tire manufacturers really drive the market. I was referring to the liability and manufacturer’s recommended charts that most tire shops won’t steer from. There are some rim manufacturers out there that are niche and do some sweet custom OEM lightweight stuff at a sweet custom price but they are built to spec.

Maybe I'm just spoiled from buying 5 matching OEM wheels in great condition for under $200 too many times to every want to pay "sweet custom price"...

I run 255s on 17” SCS Ray 10s and they fit great.

Super charging my intake lol it really works. Left the bottom of the scoop below the top of the bumper so when it rains, the water can drip out44D87FAB-A623-48D0-AB35-D4314EDB9F24.jpg8F3BBF06-32A7-4894-88DC-87F0072645D9.jpg

It’s behind my plates so it’s not noticeable, but there’s an air space below the plates for air flow. Tested it using my leaf blower

How much work would it be to convert a Y with a 2.5” merge to a 3” merge? A JFR Y cake up ends up being one of 2 Try’s made for N/A trucks or @12TRDTacoma dual setup. Since welding is not yet a skillset no idea. I hate to even chop it up but it’s like finding a unicorn in the wild.
