TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

God this hurts. I just dropped $500+ on an alternator and a battery for this thing.

On the plus side I got a 250 amp alternator and an Odyssey group 65 AGM for the money so at least it was 5 bills for quality stuff.

Not bad. 7 years of service life on my current Odyssey, and it's still going, but slowly dying.

 

Which alternator did you pick up? Been looking around a bit. Mine is at ~200k mi.

 

I picked up the one made by BNR.

I've been having to replace mine for like the last 4 years. I can't wait to get rid of the OE one that way I can throw on my NST pulley onto the new one. Good riddance to the old one.

 

Any of y’all boosted bois near Santa Barbara? There’s someone on 35’s currently NA that wants to check out a boosted 2nd gen on 35’s.

 

getting what i think is the mild chirp/ squeal from the idler pulleys. just popped the belt and spun them and they all seem great. should i change them anyway?? checked my output shaft and pinion angles. within .5 degrees. ugh

do you have to take the tensioner off the bracket to get the bracket free for the lower idler? cant seem to remember the process.

 

I just did all my idlers. You need to remove the whole tensioner assembly from the truck (2 nuts) and you can just swap the bearing from there. That’s with the stock tensioner so not sure if the upgraded ones complicate that more or not.

 

thanks. its the bracket connected to the alternator and the idler nut that holds the bottom of the bracket right? cant get it to budge.

im probably doing this wrong. the top bracket nut i believe shares a bolt with the sepentine system. it seems to be backing out and i cant get a slot screwdriver on it and turn it.

 

You are going to have to get a stubby screwdriver so you can access it. That's a weird one to have a problem with because by now both of them are mostly corroded in place by now.

 

double nut and got it back. bracket off, tensioner off, just lost an impotant bolt in there. fuckin nightmare.
