There's spark. Unless you're asking me to check voltage. I could probably do that on another day when I'm not strapped, looking out for tenants trying to bust me working on it at the complex.. I didn't get any misfire codes or nor did the engine sound like it was missing. The codes are separate for each cylinder and for malfunction of primary/secondary coils. Basically it's assumed that the coils are not getting or sending signal. Many have mentioned it might be the harness, grounds, something with wiring when it comes to the P0351-6 codes ( found when researching). But I'll be honest, URD did suggest to go back to stock coil packs. That's just their observation when it's a ignition/coil problem and keeping it simple. I thought a single code may be more likely but all 6? Shoot I'm buying lotto tickets for those that replied with help!

@jamesepoop have you wiggled your key and ignition switch to try and duplicate it? Do you have wiring diagram? i can send some for a 06 taco. most of the engine related stuff should be the same.

Not exactly. But I did shut it off and pull/reinsert the key many times during this. I don't feel like it changed the success at which the car started it held idle. You did bring up the key, but the '07 FJ didn't come with an immobilizer chip type key. The FJ cruisers got the chip in '08.

I might do a coil swap back to Ripps tomorrow at work and see if they will reproduce the codes to put this to rest. I was hoping to give Ripp the benefit of the doubt. Only way to be sure.

@jamesepoop I mis read your post that swapping the coils out on the pass side seemed to fix it. My apologies if I'm making things more difficult for you.

We're good! I kinda want to see if it's an issue I can reproduce or a single event. I've heard of strange things like people snapping in their harness connectors again helped fix a loose connection. Wasn't this case but if it really is a bad coil, how can we go about fixing it. I'd like to have more options than just Denso to be honest. If this provides any future or performance benefit, I'd like to see it happen. Unfortunately, being stuck with the problem is not ideal but at least I wasn't stranded on the side of the road.

W/o some data it's hard to say but I would stay with the denso stuff. Could look at R35 coils as they have been proven to outperform Toyota coils in terms of mJ. Having them fitting would be the only real challenge I can see but companies like PRP make different size stocks for different engines.

Something I would totally consider. Not necessarily a concern at the moment but getting one to fit would solve the problem for others looking for an alternative.

By the way @rheath08 and everyone else. It ended up being bank 1 coil 2 passenger side. I swapped one coil at a time back into place and set off on codes when this particular coil was in place. Generic code for one single plug. Can't do anything right. No obvious signs of damage but stalled out with the same DTC.

Good find. I never would thought that one coil would set faults for all.

I believe you would test resistance of the coil pack. Some correct me here. I'll probably watch YT vid or two tonight.

Mine were. Purchased in Aug '20. In the car, running by Dec '20

Don't worry Jesse. You'll know what codes to look out for. P0351-6 Lol. Don't be that concerned. I'll send my bad coil pack to Ripp after. Keep positive thoughts

Sorry...trying to keep up on this issue.

So the truck ran fine for about an year with the RIPP coils? How many miles were put on them approx?

And the symtpoms was, truck would start but then die/stall out. Set off a bunch of code pertaining to a bank of coil packs? And narrowed it down to that single RIPP coil?

    Super concerning....

Sounds like a short on the secondary coil. The supply for all 6 come from from the same pin on the ecu.

Yes. Ran fine for the most part. I made it almost 10k miles. We did have some timing being pulled at higher RPM on the Dyno but hard to say without being able to monitor the tables on UCON. Could be ignition, maybe the bottleneck in my exhaust system, or the efficiency of 2.7" pulley on mostly stock motor stuff.

It would set off codes P0351-6 all six coil packs malfunctioning , such that Toyota codes usually make you guess some. So I was lucky it was bank 1 and easier to move coils around. The stalling stopped as soon as I swapped to the Denso on bank 1. It's a concern but could be a one off issue. There doesn't seem to be any mfg issue on the exterior or signs of failure. So we'll have to wait until I see if I can measure any numbers off the bad coil and what Ripp will have as a conclusion. There are many others running these without issue so I must have won the lotto.

how often do we change maf censors??
i did mine last in 18' or 19' maybe 40k.
truck still isnt running its best. hoped the new plugs would solve it but no. need to get a new computer to see whats up.

Middle was easier than front and the rear was probably the most annoying. I didn't remove the front support bracket but did the rear bracket to get to the rearmost coil. My tools suck. I have most 3/8 sockets but 1/4" would fit better with the tight quarters where the heater hoses run. PCV hose has to come off to get to that damn rear bolt. Snaking the coils is easy once the bolts are off. Git er dun

MAF sensors are not required to get replaced unless they are causing fuel trim issues or are directly throwing a code. This usually only happens at higher mileages (think 100K+) and the MAF has lost calibration of the hot wire.

In short, you don't need to touch it, but I still need to know your fuel trims both long and short term. I don't think you ever got back to me on what they were.
