How's your coolant temp sensor acting? Fuel set up? What injectors and size pulley?

That one that is acting up, I suspect further problems within. Just don't know how to test it. Based on it starting fine from a cold start, the internal coil cuts out after. I say don't worry about it too much. Run them. Try to get them dyno'd against stock if you want to see what gains if any. I like to think my mpg seen some improvement.

 

I have removed and blocked the coolant lines there. I have been running it that way for at least 6 years. No issues

coolant temps perfect via aem gauge. 255 walbro with new filter. 650cc fic injectors, 2.3 pulley. think im the only one here without those fuel rails installed.

 

I'd like it too. I did a quick search but what I saw not sure if it was correct.

My PCM didn't like the 2.3 pulley over time for some reason. It's like it had some sort of weird long term adaption strategy where it was counteracting the amount of air that the 2.3 was moving at all times and Justin had to make some heavy duty adjustments to make it behave DECENTLY. Everyone knows what happened with my 2.3 eventually.

Switch the pulley back to a larger one. It's entirely possible all that air being moved by the 2.3 is causing disturbances.

 

I think this is different. You had OEM stock exhaust manifolds plus secondary OEM cats with the 2.3 pulley. Regardless of how open your custom x piping is downstream from the secondary cats. That air still had to fight through stock manifolds and secondary OEM cats.

MAF makes power. But it’s worthless if the engine can’t push that exhaust air out equally to what the SC is pumping in. The 2.3 pulley will constantly fight and produce extreme heat with those OEM stock exhaust manifolds. It’s the physical makeup. The exhaust port gases literally have to stop and wait in line constantly in order to exit out of the engine on top of getting blocked again by the OEM cats. That’s why headers are so great at letting those exhaust gases exit and merge as one and free flow without cats blocking those exhaust gases. Manifolds are more like a 4way stop with traffic.

The 2.8 pulley pumping air in is more equal to letting out those exhaust gases for OEM manifolds and secondary OEM cats.

 

Sometimes those exhaust gases are not so patiently waiting….

 

Sounds like your exhaust became the restriction.

 

This is a fair assumption. I didn't have the exhaust I did now and the manifolds were still OE. I don't know what the case is for Jesse and since he is boguarding his vitals there is no way to know. At this point I'm just spitballing ideas based on previous experiences here. Lol.

i see this. i also have a very open exhaust.

 

Well, I might be screwed boys. My truck started with a faint knocking sound when I would give it some gas, and then as I was rolling on, the knocking sound started getting faster and faster sort of to the rhythm of the RPM. I pulled aside and as I was doing so the truck went and died. No leaks, nothing. I will say the sound SEEMED like it was originating from the supercharger housing, but I can't say for sure.

Anyone want to go ahead with some preliminary diagnosis's as to what the heck is going on?

 

Rod knock. I don't like even typing the words. So unless the crank pulley is loose, or s/c coupler obliterated, then time to pull the pan.

Check the oil on the dipstick for glitter, and the vvt screens.

 

Yeah, that's what I was worried about myself. Probably not a bad idea to pull the dipstick. Let me do that right now.
