I bought arp head studs from lcenginering when I did mine. And used factory Toyota head gasket kit. Factory gaskets seem to be the best in my opinion

LCE said they are out of the pro stud kits... and ARP did not give them any kind of ETA... so they have no clue if it is weeks or even months. Just straight up "we don't know".

And on the Cometic gaskets, I called them and they said that the thinnest gasket they make, which is 0.027" thick, is the oem replacement one, Does that seem right to you all? 0.027" is about 0.686mm.. That just seems awfully thin, but maybe it is right. @rheath08 , do you have the factory gaskets that came off your rebuild, could you measure the compressed thickness of the used gasket? Or maybe anyone else that has ordered cometic could chime in on how they came to know what size to order.

edit: I think I will go with factory gaskets. and new oem bolts. No sense in blowing budget for things that aren't going to help me.

I don't have the measurement. But I did measure the new gaskets and they came to that in the flattest spot to get the most accurate measurement I could.

want to make sure I understand - the new gasket measurement as best you can get for an uncompressed, is somewhere close to 0.027"?

Yes, that is correct. I can try and get a pic with a micrometer this weekend if need be.
edit: it may have been the old gasket. It was a couple of months ago.

Using a lift sure does make oil changes way easier… how ever I made a massive mess since I made the wise decision to take off the oil filter first, instead of draining the oil. The result of this was my water bottle catch pan overflowing from the massive oil filter… opps. Anyway I checked my blower where @White lightning boosted had his issue and I couldn’t see or feel any wear, but for safety I am going to turn those hose clamps and maybe put some rubber tube over them with zip ties. Definitely a close call.

When I was rebuilding my 2trfe I ordered the head studs from lce… what was supposed to be a couple weeks ended up with them being delivered 6 months after the motor was built. So if it’s not in stock I wouldn’t hold my breath on getting them.

im in favor of oem gaskets too. oem parts are what make these as reliable as possible.

After you resurface the heads and use the OEM gasket, you'll slightly gain compression. It's like free HP!

This is what the old M112 blowers used to look like that Ford used on their Cobras and Lightning F150's. That would be the best way to do it for ours if someone was to make an adapter setup for it.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
That looks like a good option.
Did the nameless one ever get that twin turbo set up straightened out?
Last I had read was constant part modifications and sketchy fuel delivery.

I'm getting ready to replace my headgaskets in the next few weeks. I have the classic symptom of a misfire at #4 at cold start every other start up. The misfire duration is no more than 20 seconds. I think I have some time before it truly fails.

I sent @Torspd a PM asking him what his recommendations are for the job , he replied back with a few suggestions. He also sent me a link here, so here I am..

The motor has near 300k on the OD which is the reason why ill do both head gaskets. I'll also swap in the aftermarket exhaust cam gears while I'm at it.

I've been doing a coolant system upgrade that includes a water pump, mishimoto radiator, silicone hoses and my version of a PWM electric radiator fan, saving the head gaskets as the final phase of the upgrade. I've also added a mechanical coolant temp gauge.

Here's a brief install of the Mishimoto Radiator at my build thread..
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/monkeyproofs-misadventures.697489/page-5#post-27003535

What would be any recommendations be while doing the HG's? The motor itself is stock without any mods done to it.

I'll be checking the oil pump for scoring, and go from there. The fuel pump is already on the list becuase of age and a faulty sender, but it's near the bottom of the list. One thing though, is I'll be replacing the starter motor just for a preventive measures while im at it. Would suck being out on the trail in the middle of nowhere and have it fail because of age.
