It is another solution for sure. The MPVI2 pro is marketed specifically for being able to obtain external wideband AFR data, but I will say in advance that it's quite a bit more expensive than the small mod I did to get serial wideband data. I think total I spent like $20 for it all in comparison to $100-$200 more for the pro version.

 

I really am crazy. Day 2 of owning this thing and I'm already doing mods on it. This is the "plate mod" apparently, but it looks like the previous owners never touched it. More whine!

 

question guys- what is the best valve cover gasket material? glue i assume. can i / should i insist on something from the dealer? must i remove the intake manifold to swap cams?

Nice. You can also get more whine by swapping-out the stock lid for a few different aftermarket ones. I'm happy with the look, ease of cleaning, and sound of this (anodized, billet) prototype on my Z06...

You know I've actually seen the aftermarket lids as well. They supposedly are supposed to add a little bit of power as well for whatever reason. I was looking over the car today trying to find the part number for the belt and I found that this thing has a 9.06 overdrive DSX Tuning pulley, so this thing is already over boosting over OE 10 psi levels as it is which explains why the boost gauge reads higher than that when I'm giving it some beans.

Pulleys and boost levels aside, I wouldn't mind doing an aftermarket lid, but I think they are not necessarily state legal here in CA, even with some of the exemptions that I've managed to obtain for the truck and these cars are already somewhat marginal as it stands. I'm not sure if I'll be able to necessarily get an exemption for this car like I did the truck.

 

Permatex ultrablack outperforms the oem version (heat resistance) and its widely available.

 

Power gains come from increased volume under the lid, improving airflow and reducing heat. In my experience, they're marginal.

Nice that you're already running an overdrive pulley. Should probably confirm whether tuning's been adjusted accordingly. (That's a frequest issue with pre-owned performance vehicles.)

That's right. They come a little larger than the factory lid so that only makes sense. I didn't even think of that! Might be an issue if it's any larger due to the BMR strut tower brace.

I was thinking of checking the tune as well, but to be honest I don't know of anyone outside of Justin who does tuning, especially for these DI new gen LT motors. GM has a long list of programmable parameters that not just everyone can tune plus these newer a PCMs require unlocking which I'm not sure how is done. A lot of question marks currently in the tuning arena that I don't have any clear cut answers to.

I may need to wind up joining the Camaro6 boards to get some answers to these questions. Ah, what a marvel is the modern day fuel injected vehicle has become right? Lol.

As difficult as the valve covers are to get to on later gen 2nd gens because of that junk SAI manifold, I don't like to use anything but Hondabond on those super difficult or time consuming jobs.

Well, I think I smoked another set of o2 Sims last night during some scouting for a trip this weekend. Did one water crossing.. not too bad, second crossing was too deep to cross, but during my attempts I did get it pretty deep.. enough that later I noticed the CEL and Traction Control lights were on. Haven't had a chance to scan them yet, but from past experiences, I'm pretty sure its toast again. I'll check when I get home.

Any options going forward guys?

 

A full sensor(s) delete via HPT but if you need smog and have monitors checked it will show as incomplete on the monitors.

 

Perfect. I was curious about if HPTuner could do that. They do plug into the OBDII here in Phoenix, but that's it. no visuals or exhaust checks. I think I might just register it back up at my parents place where there are no emissions, and then do that full delete.

 

Delete that SAIS while you're at it!
