Must have been features waiting to be unlocked. The acceleration tone is starting to sound better or I'm just going a little more deaf.

I was getting some of that transmission flaring and weird shifting where it wouldn’t shift up into 5th to cruise with the 2.6” pulley.

I have not and may not do anything to the valve body to fix this, so the easiest thing for now was to do the quick change to the 2.7” I have.

    Basically, to protect the transmission.

my IPT kit fixed a lot of the flare issues I was experiencing back in the day. Still going strong like 8+ years later.

Well, now that we're done with our Disneyland vacation, I think I'm finally going to pull the trigger on a bunch of new cooling goodies and replacement parts and do the entire system all at once. Water pump, fan clutch, T stat with new housing, Mishi Rad and Trans coolers. Any recommendations on where to pick up the fan clutch and water pump?

That can be addressed in the tune. Or with a valvebody that increases line pressures as mentioned.

For the water pump, i bought mine off Amazon but also checked rockauto for pricing. The Aisin WPT136 is what you need for the 4.0. I have purchased two now and they are Toyota pumps with the Toyota logo ground off.

I thought the flaring was throttle position. When i let off, it shifts up and when I'm light footed, it tends shift down. Does pulley effect it that much? I try not drive in OD unless I'm on the highway.

Is shift flare, and in general trans pressures and parameters something that can be addressed with only a tune?
I.e., a custom set up tune could be in lieu of a valve body kit?

I have addressed and cured the shift flare in trucks without a valvebody upgrade via the tune.

Here is a little bit of very interesting information you fellas might like to read. This is a place in Australia that supply and install chargers for the 1grfe engine. They have stated that their kits are designed to go straight on a stock engine apart from an exhaust upgrade and they can push to 14psi. I did also speak with them over the phone of my smaller pulley idea and they said with the right tune I’ll have no issues even if it went past 14psi, the engine can handle it. All that is left to do now is… send it! Lol. Fuck it may as well.

Can versus should push 14psi… It would be real interesting if your Australian 1GR is different enough from our North American ones... we may be buying front clips and doing swaps over here...

The only thing I say to this is that boost isn't everything, but flow is.

Agreed. I’ll let the Dyno Bloke work for his money on getting it right.

The issue is that type of blower, centrifugal, has a gradual boost curve vs roots which is near immediate. That is different loading on the bearings, piston, etc boost really isn't the gauge you'd want to look at but volumetric efficiency. The readings from the maf would be a good resource.

Well... I still am pushing 15psi and things are running fine. Don't get me wrong though, I always have that plan on the backburner for me to buy a short block...

You are definitely in line for a motor brother.

If you are running meth though, that sort of changes things.
