have a spare set on hand in case you hear noise. check it every 6 months for issues. i end up changing my idlers annually because of my location and less than conservative set up.

Also interested. Only have a 2.8” pulley so I hope it’s longer than annually

Keep an ear out or keep an eye out for noises, excessive play etc. related to worn out pulleys every 30K. I usually have to replace my stuff every 1-2 years and I drive around or less than 15K on the truck (less now) every year.

Our pulley setups for these blowers suck. Double bearing rollers for all of it honestly if it was easy to fit that stuff in there, but from how much of an afterthought this entire setup from Magnuson is, it's easier said than done.

it isnt entirely based on pulley size. as ive mentioned they spray liquid salt on the roads here in the cold months. after a couple weeks of driving in it i get bearing noise upon morning starts. im quite convinced that plays a substancial part in bearing lifespan. basically if you dont hear ferrets fighting under the hood you should be ok. quick test is unhook the s/c belt and manually roll the pullies. if it feels fine likely it is. part of maintenance on hipo toys. argree with this fella ^^^

I'm at 141k and doing all mine (engine and blower). Last time I did just a couple idlers was at the 90k mark. (cant remember which ones, engine side) These idlers I just pulled off seem kinda... meh.. so I think I'm going to try and do bearings/belts at 50k-60k intervals. I'm replacing them all at the same time this go around so this should be a good test. So far I'm in it (bearings x9/belts x2) about 400-500 bucks.

Are you changing the engine (not s/c) tensioner as well?

This is interesting to me because I've had the same idlers and pulleys since 2011 - and 100000 miles - and I don't seem to have problems. I even went in with a stethoscope and checked every idler to see if there was excessive noise.

he was asking about the engine, not s/c so sounds about right. I figured I have time since I have only had the S/C on for about 20k

That sounds like a reasonable plan.

Given the supply chain issues we have, better to store the part(s) until needed, than wait for a part to arrive when needed.

Got the VW idler modified for the pulley wrap mod. Had my coworker knock it out real quick for me today at the shop. Carbide part-off insert made quick and easy work of the case hardened base. Waiting on the last bearings to swap those into the engine idlers and then slap all this back together finally.

And a picture of my actual work from today just because.. chunk of 416 stainless.. roughly 4" x 2"

    My shit is all stock.
That base was a mf to cut. I knew you’d have an easier time of it.

Okay guys, my stock clutch finally started slipping. Besides the clutch and flywheel, what else needs to be changed when I install the new clutch? Oem release bearing? My factory clutch has been trouble free this whole time. I was looking at getting a Spec stage 2+. Thanks in advance.

Here is one I didn't know existed boys. SCOL makes two idlers which are double bearing, ribbed and smooth for the upper idler pulleys and you can also use the smooth one for the tensioner apparently, as it is the same size as OE... I just installed my two uppers today. Thanks for promptly shipping them over @jamesepoop !! What I did not know is that they make the lowest 3" pulley which rides right next to the supercharger crank driven pulley. That is the most critical one as it sees the most speed and wind up from the supercharger crank pulley itself.

We now have three viable replacement solutions if anyone ever needs replacements for the lower idler:

    - OE 3" (C4) gray colored pulley
    - Dayco 2.8" pulley (the one on Page 1 I have posted about before and run on my own)
    - SCOL 3" (C4 direct replacement alternative) double bearing pulley

A link for those who either want to take a look at it or pick one up from them:
    https://superchargersonline.com/pro...-or-magnuson-supercharger-replaces-c4-pulley/

Just do me a favor and save one for me for when I pull off the tensioner assembly again please. :)

Correct me if I am wrong but in this case then, we should be able to swap all the pulleys to a double roller with the exception of one?superchargerbeltandpulley.jpg
Basically all of them with the exception of that middle idler?

    That is 100% correct! :headbang:

This might be our magic bullet to dealing with yearly idler bearing replacements!

4/5 pulleys replaced with well built units for the intended purposes we use them for?! Imagine that!
