TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I really hate it when one of us is having issues, and sadly I feel that all of us have gone through our turn in hardships with their engine here at one point or another. It just looks like Jesse is the unfortunate next recipient up.

 

Dude that's crap.. can you post the pic of the cam(s)?

 

cams are destroyed from lack of correct install. they look like they were beaten with a large hammer. its all fine if you have money. im tired of working 7 days a week to prepare to be broke.

Unfortunately this is the risk we all take when modding anything. As the saying goes... Gotta Pay to Play. Sometimes this is just the name of the game sadly.. I hope it works out the best it can man.. dont stress the money part.. its just money. You've got other things more important to worry about.

 

Who did the install for you? The same shop where you have it at right now?

 

Kinda hard to see the lobes. But it looks like I can see a hint of damage..

Any chance you can get a pic with the lobe in focus?

 

I don’t know man, this is a puzzle. If cams are trash, wouldn’t the metal debris cause problems on the bottom end too? Wouldn’t the timing being off from the get go cause things to break right away? I would check the tensioner, maybe the chain jumped timing after it failed?

my thoughts as well. do i pay them to tear down and hope its heads? or do i motor swap. it was 1800.00 just to know this.

It is an interference engine. The valves will hit the pistons if timing is off or a chain breaks.

It looks like the lobe is too big and hitting the cylinder head right at the buckets. Hince only chewed up on the outer edges of the cam lobe.

 

@White lightning boosted what cam grind did you get?

 

ok. i just dont know those things. i figured such but im just guessing. had to remind the manager i put the stock cams in the back. hoping that might help.

 

I don't judge you or think you're winning. That is a tough spot and venting to get it off your chest is normal and fine.

 

same as everyone. mild s/c grade. i dunno. i just wanted them so i took the bait.

 

Because of interference design of engine I would think the timing being off at install would have caused problems right away. My theories are: a failed timing chain tensioner, a valve spring/guide failure throwing timing off, improper size of valve bucket shim.

Maybe get an estimate for engine swap. a used engine will go for 4000-4500 online plus the labor. Tearing into this engine alone could be another 2k (based on how much they’ve charged so far) and you’d still be back to square one if not salvageable.

Maybe @Torspd has some ideas?

 

i agree with this. looks like the lobes hitting the head or something. or it looks like the cam lobes arent centered on the buckets
