    They are worth about that.
    Or a snickers.

2 million Canuck bucks allows you to buy a second snickers.

I would not recommend gutted cats for normal use. I think you will get too much turbulence and actually lessen flow. My understanding any way. I think the OEM cats are more robust than some of the aftermarket offerings.

I think the idea was to hollow it out and hide a straight pipe inside it to still give the appearance of cats present

I was really going for a big rubber eraser, the extra soft kind. That or a pack of Bazooka bubble gum. :notsure:

Think that's enough for either of those items or do I require more Cannuck Bucks?

Oh, I see. I had thought of that in the past. I would have had to pay for the job, beyond my fab ability. Curious how it works out.

I was just guessing that’s what they meant because anything else is pretty retarded. Like you said, straight hollowed would mess up scavenging and exhaust flow for sure.

That said, it would still fail smog in places like CA because you a) can’t have a CEL, b) can’t have O2 sims, and c) can’t have it tuned out.

You didn't ask but I was one of the people to chase this down as well. It was just one coil that went bad. I had the 4runner models that @12TRDTacoma and @Murphinator ran. My boots were cut down .75", although snug on install. Murph didn't cut his down and he had the same dead coil issue. Don't recall what coil it happened on but mine was cylinder 3 . On YT, there's several jeeps running into the same dead coil issue. Ripp knows it's a problem though. I offered to ship mine back but they said they already had some from other customers.

What I do knows, is if they're considered "performance" coils, you'll need to treat it as such. It's not a set and forget it item but neither is a supercharger. I don't believe these to be a overlander suggested upgrade.

Does that mean they need to the replaced every 30k with the plugs?

If so that is a major L and I wouldn't recommend these to anyone whatsoever because 30K is nothing as far as mileage is concerned.

It probably sounds ridiculous to some. I'd say treat it as a consumable item or service as necessary, have back up or access to replacements. Such like carrying spare belts, filters.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of fighting to get different systems Frankensteined together and usually with a ton of wiring issues to overcome, and other random stuff (motor mounts, ecu's etc.)

Coils should not be considered consumables. If they were easier to access than the current configuration than they are I don't think I'd have as much of a problem saying that they are, but given their layout on these engines and how difficult they are to access I will say that they should last a lot longer than 2 or 3 spark plug changes before they leave you on the side of the road. (A different issue in and of itself.

I've only ever heard about falling issues with aftermarket coils, ie, accel, msd, etc. While I chose to forego the advice to try the Ripps, look up any reviews on aftermarket coils. I don't think you'll ever find one saying they will outlast a Denso/Bosch/Hitachi OEM unit. A failure like mine at ~10k miles, a little over a year seemed like a QC issue. Now that it's occurred more and in YouTube/jeeps, you'll be the lucky ones if you had them 30-50k miles. I choose to accept it as a performance caveat though.

Race car parts really. And the cat is still in the bag as far as data proving these are better than OE, so I wouldn't necessarily even call them racecar parts until someone posts data regarding their intensity of energy discharge capabilities in comparison to the OE.

Either way, back to stock I go, and it's running just beautifully now once again. Like nothing ever happened. Lol.

So Ripp coils are duds? Or worse? I have a set sitting on my shelf. I guess they’re paperweights now.

I would call them paperweights personally.
