Have you upgraded the fuel pump? Are you running a completely stock set up other than the S/C as shipped, i.e no smaller pulley, intake/exhaust changes?

Fuel pump oe with 226k, havent installed new engine or s/c yet but will be running 2.8 pulley. I figure at least an oem fuel pump should be installed to avoid issues.

You will see an improvement running an upgraded fuel pump. Page 1 goes into some of the options. URD has a simple kit that is complete, or you can upgrade the external filter, or just piece together your own kit.
Many think we will only do a mod or two and then the boost dominoes fall and you'll find the oem is maxed out.

If you have the option to have them tested I would do that to be safe. If there has been fuel in them then there’s a good chance one of them might not be happy. If they were dry then I think you have a good chance of them being fine.

Also definitely get an upgraded fuel pump please if not for anything but ditching the stock filter that is basically cardboard wrapped around the pump. Your motor will thank you in the long run.

I plan on removing the bed to finish some welding this winter so it would be dumb not to pop one in

Still gonna need to drop the tank if DCSB like your description says…

I think this fuel pump mod is helpful even NA if you have high mileage.

make sure you replace the injector o-rings as well. worn seals cant leak, causing mayhem.

Also dont lose bolts when you take intake off like my coworker did on a 4.7. I get the pleasure to tear it down and see what he fucked up.

look into the correct tools for removing/installing the lid to the tank for said fuel pump. the two times i helped do one wasnt easy. also check your parts package carefully. 1st one i did 1 electrical connector was missing and theyre not sold at auto parts stores iirc. i happend to have my to be installed unit on hand to use one. saves down time and headaches.

Damn, that valve is bent like the tower of Pisa! Is the guide destroyed too?

Look at the valley on that 4.7L! Chock full with starter and smog pump. Is that Toyota’s way of rodent prevention?

Thats what I was worried about, the guide being wallowed out. Old lady drove it long enough with a dead cylinder to melt the cat.

I've just been using a hammer and a chichsel with the end wrapped with a rag. Works fine. Done about 5 tank drops with that method.

i would def add it. but it will run without it. I have been running my 2.8 modded setup sans upgraded Fuel Pump and its been fine but again prob not to its full potential.I have it just have not got to it. But if you have the bed off no brainer. I thought with the shortbed you had to drop the tank and the long bed was the one you could access.

Either way the tank is a breeze to drop and my truck has no rust so it will get done before I put it back on the road, thanks for the advice!

yah your deep into it so its the right time. Every time i get my tank near empty to test it out I have to fill it out to use it. Last time would have been perfect but I filled it up then found out my axle is bent so its been sitting there with a full tank.

I believe the replacement injectors part number from toyota is PTR24-35071. Just so you know it's $130 per injector. Toyota of decatur is having a sale at the moment for 25% off all toyota parts. I would see if you can find a shop to rebuild/clean them. It'll be a lot cheaper.
