When he melts a piston he'll wish he dropped the $50 to get the injectors checked.

You mean how I have already said thats my first step is to have them checked? Posts like that are just dumb dude! I take engines apart for a living and Im already preparing to replace injectors before the engine is ever even started.

You heard correctly. The rep at the booth for Overland expo told me that was the only reason. They are kinda behind on other platforms so I really doubt they will update the Tacoma one anytime soon

    Hi boosted brothers. I'm back.

For those who drive in colder temperatures (well below freezing), how's your experience with voltage boosters? Did anything get fried on startup with 15+ volts? I see low 15s without a booster when it's cold. Nothing's happened yet.

I haven’t fried anything yet after last winter of several days below zero American units (F). One day I did try and use the remote start and it was just clicking and clicking and clicking… I had to run outside in slippers to unlock the truck and jump in to tap the brake pedal to interrupt its zombie state of trying to power the starter until it dried out from slightly too low voltage.

What sort of booster are you talking about here? It all depends where you place it as well whether it be the interior or exterior of the cab.

Probably the HK whatever Diode/fuse replacement or their other version that has DIP switches to change… basically it tricks the ECU into changing the DC output of the regulator connected to the alternator.

I've run an HKB MK4 Adjustable Alternator Voltage Booster, configured only to ensure proper charging of my AGM battery (i.e., +0.4V to +0.6V), for years with zero problems.

Man I am really late to this party lol. So much information to read. Finally bought a supercharger since I just had new heads thrown on the ol 4.0 a long with a new oil pump and water pump. So Since Ill be keeping this truck a ways longer, while I have the supercharger off is there anything I should do before installation?

Get a fuel pump, install a Qwikchange setup for easy future pulley stepdowns, modify the tensioner with a double bearing roller, shave the stop down a little bit and finally get you a Gates 70.5" RPM belt. This belt will be good for all pulley sizes 2.7 to OE 3 inch. Make sure you get a tune by @JustDSM to finish it off once you are done.

2.7 pulleys and below will require transmission valve body work, whether you do that on your own, or have a shop build it for you FYI. So if you don't want to do that right now, make sure you stay at or above a 2.8 pulley. Exhaust will be your primary point of airflow concern, as it is a huge bottleneck in OE form. Try to keep boost levels between 6.5 and 8.5 psi, as anything more will require water/ meth injection or E85 fueling to stay within the blowers efficiency range.

I may be missing something else here but until I can think of it this puts you in a good place to get you established.

Also, run water wetter or engine ice for the engine and the LTR supercharger coolant circuit loop once the build is complete if you live in an area where freezing temps aren't a concern.

I'm running a 2.8 with equal length long tubes with stock cat-back, fuel pump, and a JustDSM tune...it's a whole different truck. Enjoy!

I have been running an HKB adjustable for a few years. No issues. It gets cold here.. -45 or so for a couple weeks at the coldest part of last winter, and I drove it to work every morning, plus a couple thousand km highway to visit family for Christmas.

I didn't know he was in Tahoe. If that's the case he needs a 2.6 or 2.5 easily.
