When they put the new ones on from the maggy kit 4k ago?

Before the exhaust and even with the pulley swap I was getting around 15-16. Now I'm averaging 12.5

Believe it or not that's the pretty average norm around these parts dude. Is that what you're getting highway, city, or mixed?

Mixed. But the the fact I wasn't before and now I am is what the mystery is

Mixed for me is 14- 14.2. on the freeway I'm looking at about 17. It's just the size of these trucks and how lacking in aerodynamic shape and height they are.

Are you running the larger intake without a tune? When did that swap happen?

it takes a pony or two just to spin these s/c units. but there becomes where you want your truck build to be. mine gets 12-ish. these arent the most efficient toys. mine smells like a 60's chevy.

Yes, but 2 weeks before the exhaust swap last Thursday. So the only variable that's isolated is the exhaust. I have cam gears and the tune to round everything out. But as of right now 12.5mpg is quite a bit lower then expected when I only have a 2.85 pulley compared to most of you guys.

I'm a bit ignorant on this stuff so as I keep reading and asking questions I'm sure I'll figure out where it's going

When your exhaust was all redone, did you re-use the O2 sensors or go with new ones? If new O2 sensors, which ones? Have you done the boost reference fuel pressure mod? If so, before or after the mpg hit?

Reused old o2 sensors since there wasn't a problem. And I thought I read that until you get to 8+ of boost it's not recommended to do the boost reference fuel pressure mod.

Regardless, I would swap back to the stock tube size, whether that is the original air box or a Tacoma CAI. Get the AFR gauge running and verify all is well. Then monitor your fuel mileage. I see no benefit by running the larger intake with your mod level and especially not being tuned for it.

You are flying blind and dumping more air than the ECU is accounting for, there may be some compensation happening on the feedback. It may have been lean off the bat, then began to compensate by adding more fuel and you are just correlating it with the exhaust changes.

    What are your fuel trims?

Do what thou wilt, these are just my thoughts.

For reference, I am on the 2.6" pulley, Tacoma aFe CAI, EL headers, URD Y-pipe, 1 Hi Flow Cat in the 3" catback. Cam gears, TRD 455cc injectors, HPtuned... I can hit 10psi on cold days near sea level. That is a lot of flow with my open intake and exhaust. I avg ~14.5mpgs but can hit +19mpgs on road trips out West when running 70mph on end. 35s/4.56 gears, with armor all around.

No those are all very valid and appreciate reasons. I'll swap back after work today and make sure to stay in vacuum until. I threw my back out at work on Monday so I've been living on a heating pad the last couple days.

I've never calculated my mpg, but I'm guessing it'll be around mid teens city and 20 tops highway with mixed speeds from cruising to passing. I would generally top off by my house and have 1/4 tank left from SA to Houston and vice versa.

that would be like winning the lottery. I get 12-13 on conservative but tend to see 9-10 but there are many factors there.

I've been getting about 13-14 mpg mixed driving. 2.85" pulley, TRD CAI, TRD cat back, cam gears, fuel pump, HPTuned, 33's, 2"ish lift, stock 3.73s. The FJ is shaped like a brick wall lol. MPG shoots up significantly when I'm able to draft behind other vehicles on the freeway.
