    This sounds correct
Hard to say for sure. I spoke with someone at magnuson who said they have never seen this failure before, but they said their best guess is either a bad tensioner that “shakes” causing extra stress or over torquing the stud.
My lower engine idler no. 1 was funky. It was smooth but very hard to spin. Unsure if it was like that before stud broke. Replacing all the engine idlers just to be sure. I also replaced the engine tensioner. While waiting for SCOL to send me an invoice for parts I found a replacement tensioner for the supercharger so I will be ordering that as well.

For now I put the stock studs, crank/sc crank and 3.0 idler back with a new dayco belt. Everything seems to be ok. I am going to baby it until I get new parts in.

Edit: I also contacted Gates and they said the reason RPM belts are no longer around is because they were slowing down the original production line. No comment on if they will be coming back but they did say the backlash has been strong since discontinuing them.

Yah best to take it easy. Has me feeling uneasy but so far no issues soon my end. Had a fleet belt walk off but haven’t had issues yet with the RPM.

for 2.8 pulleys you running stock length belt?

Magnuson will and have done everything within their power to deny any issues related to the way their supercharger serpentine issue is set up for our trucks. They designed what they did and they have washed their hands of it. At the end of the day they don't want to invest any more time to address the system they designed as an afterthought to the Tacoma and that's just all there is to it. To date I'm still not a fan of using two large studs to allow not just one, but two large serpentine systems to drive two separate systems in unison on an engine. There is just too much load bearing, and tension both static and dynamic on it all to be reliable under every circumstance the engine will ever see.

I believe one of them is a double bearing, so that’s probably the added resistance you were feeling. Definitely can’t hurt to replace it though and call it a day. I’d probably do the same

I had my old one and it was easier to spin but not loose. This one was like almost locked up. Something was definitely up with it. I got my old one in until the new one arrives at Toyota. I want to say this one was purchased around 3-4 years ago during the time when parts quality were shotty at best so doesn't surprise me if it was doomed from the get go.
I don't think it should concern you too much. This is only the like 4th failure we've seen on here and I know as much as we all chat there is lots of people with these setups that don't post in here, but if they had an issue I'm sure they would. Ya I'm running stock length. There isn't much out there for .15 smaller pulley and even if there was, I'll gladly accept a little belt slip here and there but I've personally never noticed any before.

belt slip can be noticed 2 ways. boost flattening out of the smell of burning.

This rust concern anyone? Lol i dont think it could be that bad as this setup is only 4 years old? Truck was in North Carolina and Texas before that. 17145525606249089091391117149826.jpg

    A very nice looking truck!
Seeing nice trucks like this makes me almost wish I didn't offroad my truck to the level I do. Or at least babied it and kept it in closer to stock form & got some old truck to beat on.

That’s how you fly a Cessna. Carbs adjustable from the cockpit, so you can lean out to get more out of a fueling

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I avg 14.5mpg daily. <1k' above sea level. When I go out west I tend to get ~18-19. Loaded up and going over passes. Thin air and less stop and go.

Cruising at 70mph for many miles in WY a couple years back I was over 20?!
It was scary hot and dry in the middle of nowhere. I was ready to call 911 if I broke down.

Yeah I usually average 13/14, and I'm suddenly at 19+ lol

I just had a really rough trip through the desert all weekend, I wonder if I shook something loose in my fuel pump.

@Murphinator , any progress on repairs, or a best guess at probable cause? I was wondering since you had recently done the new SCOL pulleys, and had sanded down a bit of the @Athlaos upgraded stud, if that or something else misaligned with the new pulleys may have caused this? Just throwing it out there

Truck is up and running but waiting for new parts to come in for it to be totally right. I’m leaning towards a tension issue but once I get everything I’ll post up my final thoughts on what I think happened.
As far as the sanding on the stud, I don’t think that was the issue but it’s possible. It was a really light sand but when my new scol pulley gets here I will definitely just drill the spacer out. The stock stud I am using right now is slightly bent so I would think that would cause the same issue but maybe not.

I'm really thinking that there's flex in the studs, which are the primary supports for the tensioner assembly.

The third little thin metal support on the side would give adequate fore/aft tension but I doubt it provides enough side to side support, which would mostly come from the studs.

Making a thicker side support might be the next best trick to try. Someone on here may have tried this but memory escapes me.
