That would be awesome! They do stay a nice gold color for a while but as you know they get darker and darker with age.

It minimized heat soak in the hot summer months. Anybody that’s in tune with these TRD blowers will noticed the power diminish after summer driving in city traffic. As for objective, isn’t it a fact water cools more effectively than coolant? It just corrosive, freezes, and boils

 

I dunno, does water in fact cool better than the yota coolant? I was hoping so, but was/am not sure if it does or not.

Thats where numbers come in and make things measurable, thus objective.

 

Water does cool better, but can freeze. That's the main reason antifreeze is the way to go for most systems. If one doesn't mind changing it twice a year it should be worth it. I'll be doing a test on this soon.

 

@JuanitoBunito, what brand radiator hoses did you have that didnt work out?

 

All forms of antifreeze coolant used in cars have worse thermal conductivity than straight water. That's the sacrifice you get for raising the boiling point and lowering the freezing point.

The solution for many supercharged Corvette ZR1 owners to get maximum cooling effectiveness, while still having coolant protection is running a 70/30 or even 80/20 water/ coolant mix.

I've wanted to change the mix for a while, but have not done anything to it since I did a service.

 

What's the best way to test the mixture in the system now?

If you want to something like 25/75 That is easy to do if you run a gallon of coolant in your engine system.

HPS silicone hoses. I got them off eBay. They were very nice quality just didn’t workout because I have a blower on my motor....

 

Crappy parts is is that the Toyota (pink) Super Long Life is pre-mixed. And the (red) Long Life is not the same stuff. According to our techs, you can not go from pink to red. It will cause issues. Now can you run straight water a few times to get it all the pink flushed out and then go to red which is concentrate to get the mix you want. They can not tell my if that will or won't work. But they do believe the real issue between the two is the mixing of them, so a flush may be the ticket.

 

I have one of those, but it just gives you temp. Not sure how to correlate to mixture.

 

Still shouldn't be hard to dilute the pre mixed stuff further. 1 gallon premixed is 1/2 gallon coolant. Add 1 gallon distilled water to 1 gallon per mixed for a 25% coolant to 75% water ratio.
Of course you can figure out different mixtures with simple math but what I dont know off hand it what the freezing temp is for the different mix ratios.
