I think he’s just talking about the boot pleats rubbing.

I know you already know this Jon, but I always order my CVJ axles with high angle inner and OEM outer boots. Rubbing has never been an issue.

When they did mine, the guy showed me all the worn parts and explained what they changed / upgraded. I don’t remember the details any longer, but they did do a bunch of stuff to it.

Would these different boot pleats matter if you had a bracket lift? Or since I understand my axle geometry being stock-ish would I get more life out of them?

    Forgive me.

The stock CV axle boot's are only capable of so much angle on them from lift before a different design (like a 930 bates or LT boot) is required, or in many cases more desirable due to the chance of less tearing.

I don’t really know anything about drop bracket lifts.

That said, I imagine your axle angles are the same as they were stock, and you have no need to add high angle boots.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking about getting more lift.

Was assuming my geometry was the same as stock. Curious if a boot designed for suspension lifts would have a longer life.

Your lift basically keeps the geometry equal to that of a stock truck, unless of course you add adjustable coilovers and crank them. I have had everything from stock boots to the CVJ high angle ones. Never had an inner boot problem. All my ripped boots were the outers.
How many inner boots have you gone through?

Thanks for the clarification. How many inner boots have you gone through?

Revised suspension is in the forecast. Cant fully reverse the bracket lift but do want to upgrade uca's and kings. Research is required as most are not silly enough to go bracket lift. I bought mine this wayo_O

Head on over to the DB lift thread. A few guys over there have done UCAs and Kings/Foxs

Actually, I've eaten through at least 3 pairs of outer boots so far. The inners for me have not been so much the problem. Especially now that I have been running the 930 LT style. My inners are ready to give but the others tore long ago.

Kinda what I am saying. Boots are a wear item, and I have ripped way too many outer boots due to wheeling.

They are more of a wear item when you have a lift and angles are more pronounced.

If you wheel and frequently move those boots up and down pretty frequently, of course they are going to tear quicker. Nature of the beast.

I personally loved my LT boots but they were constructed of cheaper rubber and they became dry rotted fairly quickly. If they didn't they would had lasted much much longer than they did.

Now I'm questioning my carrier bearing as well (more play than I would like, so I may as well do a complete rebuild).

Which one did you go with?

I replaced it with a polyurethane variant IEDLS polyurethane yellow version. Some modifications may be necessary depending on your lift heights, mine required none and I'm still rocking it actually. It also drives with much more compliance since there isn't a bunch of slop like the stock carrier has.

There was a HUGE group buy on it that I organized some time ago. There are at least two threads circulating regarding it that I created some time ago.

I’m just under 3” all around. I’ll probably add a CB drop when I rebuild it.

You may not need to if you go polyurethane. I actually ran the carrier flipped the way it came and fabbed my own sandwich plate to seal off the bearing and ran it like that. If you are that high than you most likely will not need to either if you go with the poly CB.
