From what I've read over the years, it seems like 10% of people with UCON are happy, issue free, and have a good tune, 30% are so unhappy they ditch it and return/ resell it, and 60% have frequent issues but are holding out that one day it will be right. And that's not good enough for me.

Now we have ovtune as an option, where it seems that most everyone that is finally setup and has their tune, is very happy. But it took over a year in some cases after purchase to get there, and 2nd gen sc updates and development doesn't seem to be high on the priority list.

I will just confirm for anyone here, if you have the same exact mods as I had when my truck was dyno’d, and you get an ovtune handheld, you can request my dyno tune specifically and he will upload it for you. Mods at time of dyno were:
2.85 pulley, bypass jet removed, afe stage 2 si intake, short tube headers, stock ypipe, 3” catback. DW 255 lph fuel pump, trd injectors, trd tune. I feel like I am forgetting something but I think that was everything.

I know most of you have smaller pullies so that isn’t very helpful for you, but maybe others on here. Also the dyno was done at 800 ft above sea level, and if I remember correctly it was around 80 F in the dyno room.

Also since said dyno tune I have added a ypipe and the valve body upgrade with no issues.

That was like my GTO. I was a pioneer in that arena. I had one of the fastest NA builds by using some real unorthodox methods in doing so. I pissed off a lot of people because it entirely went against everything they were spoon fed to preach to me that required modding to build over on that engine. Life was good. :D

If I had that car today still (if only GM didn't build such garbage) I would still be blowing the doors off people with it.

Unfortunate that he WAS such a good source for parts. I have literally built 98% of my truck without his stuff. The only reason why it has anything of his is on it is because he has a good intake design and because I picked it up second hand, due to his shitty customer service, and my firsthand experience in dealing with him so, I refuse to buy anything of his, at any point.

So did the UCON clear up those weird running problems you had man?

Speaking of which how is that valve body upgrade I did for you working out for you?

Yeah, the GTO was a piece of sh!t. So I hear, anyways. Fun project, I'm sure, though.

I'd say you're definitely pushing some limits by using the smaller pulley with TRD tune....

Unfortunately, we've heard that for months.

    +1.

    Sad, but probably accurate.

    Congrats!

Something my wife and I agreed on years ago was establishment of a "man account." It's auto-funded every month, and I use the funds to buy whatever I want for both my "garage mistresses" (the Tacoma and my Shelby). This lets her "budget" what I spend on go fast stuff, keeping both of us happy.

My girlfriend would be on-board with something like that. She's almost too good with money. It's been 9 months and she's already saying stuff like "so there's no more mods to do now? Just basic maintenance?"

    Lol

My wife has horses. I have cars lol. She tells my the xrunner is a money pit and I just remind her that still less money involved then horses. Side note saving some money. Got snipped today so no more kids for me lol. Looks like I’ll be cruising tacoworld all day

Horses are way more expensive than trucks. And not nearly as fast. Heal up quickly, I know that's my plan in a few years after we have however many we decide to have

I'm lucky that my GF hasn't paid attention to how much more I spend on the truck than her :fingerscrossed:

But I know I'm living on borrowed time as far as that goes....

You definitely have the greatest pulley ratio for the TRD blower I’ve ever witnessed. Only one other person I know had a snake bite mod from stiegemeier. It produced something like 16 lbs on the 3 inch stock pulley but the engine didn’t last very long. Not sure if he was APRx1 tuned or not.

Wasn't the guy running that setup also running an increased redline?

At that boost amount proper tuning is critical, and if the tune was off it is entirely plausible that he blew up the engine simply because the tune was incorrect. Human error is a high factor when it comes to modding and high horsepower.

I was just talking to a Silverado guy and he couldn't believe the performance you can get out of a 4.0L v6 with our blowers. And to think most of us drove them home with a beastly 236hp at the crank.

Reminds me of guys in my car club (Nissan Z cars) who would buy an electronic boost controller and turn it up to 16psi on a stock tune. They say it was fast as fnck... until they had no more engine the first time they hit 6000rpm. Adding boost takes a little bit more thought than that.

There is nothing more pleasing than walking or entirely blowing the doors off a V8 truck, or even V8 higher horsepowered car when they were not even close to expecting it out of a little gutless Tacoma.

These engines are very slept on and configured correctly using the right combinations of parts and supporting mods, you could get some serious power out of them.
