TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

...that’s what I’ve been saying about UConn. I would like one but....

 

I actually pulled a raptor. It was slight, but a pull is a pull. He was not happy and I was pleasantly surprised.

 

For what it's worth, I'm happy with the UCON so far. I've only driven 70 miles since install, so still very early. No cel, running strong, plenty of power. Had a few seconds of rough idle & mild misfiring at a red light yesterday, resolved on its own & hasn't recurred so far.

 

I pull just about everything out there these days. I love watching the look on people's faces when they realize it was an obese Tacoma which destroyed them. If I really want to insult them, I throw on the 4X4 before the shenanigans start from a dig.

Can't wait to pull on them even more with the 2.3.

You know "resolved on it's own" is a pending failure which will show up again in short order though right?

I know no such thing. My truck has had minor issues with misfires since the supercharger was installed last year.

 

Oh yeah, so it will only get worse in time. What kind of intake do you have? Stock air cleaner or an aftermarket?

 

Hasn't worsened in 5,000 miles.
AFE dry filter, stock intake.

 

Okay, so I'll rule out the intake causing issues. Any codes stored in the computer? How many miles on it at that? There are a lot of variables that need to be covered.

 

38,000 miles total. No codes. Running better than it ever did on the BD tune. I'm not worried about it for now.

 

You should worry about it. You are boosted now. This is not some issue that you can just disregard like you do on a naturally aspirated car and there be no to mild repercussions in the long run. You get a misfire in max boost and the next thing you know you have a rod flying out of the engine block.

Not saying that will happen to you, but I'm saying it could, as introducing forced induction into any engine requires a newfound level of care and close attention in the overall running and operating condition of the vehicle.

This is not an attempt at patronizing you, this is just my concern over the fact it has been doing it on and off for a while and you are not very worried about it.

 

I truly do appreciate your concern. Maybe 'not worried about it' wasn't the best wording, since you don't know me very well. What I meant is I'm not ready to dive into a bunch of diagnostics & troubleshooting at this point. I'm concerned enough to make note of how often it happens & under what circumstances. I also have been fairly cautious with it & have not done any WOT since the UCON install until I'm more confident with it.

I live at 6500' elevation & don't achieve as much boost pressure as others with similar mods. My last dyno run only showed a max boost of 5. (BD tune)

I pulled on the dunes on a 2017 Raptor with some mods. He was on 4x4 and I was in 2x4. He was very displeased daddy's truck couldn't keep up with a Tacoma lol

 

Not bad 2nd gens are much faster than the 1st gen raptors. Hell my stock 09 taco can easily beat a gen 1 raptor. Not off road though. Did it at least have a dirty money sticker?

Ahh yes. I remember this thread! I even commented on it. It sounds like you are running a little dirty right now. Do you have the ability to datalog? I'd like to see your running condition during idle.

 

P219A again today on very gentle acceleration. Truck feels great and as healthy as it ever has.

 

I think @OVTune should come hang out with us over here and let us know what's up. He's in some 3rd-gen room with "those people"... He needs to come over here where the love is.
