Merry Christmas and may your New years be full of boost.

Been trying to figure out what to do about the idler bearings. The stock NSK bearings are a specialty item that I'm having trouble finding a direct replacement. I got 10 years out of the stock set and this truck has seen it all. The stock NSK bearings are essentially higher quality automotive deep groove roller bearings that most likely have better grease and tighter tolerances than your standard roller bearing. This helps them survive the close to 20,000 rpm surges that the idlers can see. I originally thought ceramics sounded like a neat route as they can be made to be a durable bearing at higher speeds. My call to Micro Blue turned me away from their offering.

I also called Ortech Advanced Ceramics, whom also makes custom Ceramic Bearings, to ask about the application. Their application engineer recommended their hybrid ceramics for this application. He said chrome steel or stainless races would be good. Silicon Nitride balls, PEEK retainers, seals, their SRL lube offering and either ABEC 5 or 7 specifications were recommended. The ABEC 7 is only available on the 6203 bearings. However these bearings in all are about $350-$400 total and take 2 weeks to ship. They actually hand assemble your bearings for you. These look awesome, but definitely a lot of money for idlers that really aren't going to free up much horsepower.
    Links to Ortech:
    6303- https://www.ortechceramics.com/prod...arings/6303-hybrid-ceramic-bearings-17x47x14/
    6203- https://www.ortechceramics.com/prod...arings/6203-hybrid-ceramic-bearings-17x40x12/

Also looked into Boca bearing's offerings, which are a little cheaper. They had an option for some with heavy duty seal specifically made for offroading. I found a civic forum where an owner had one bearing fail after only 8,000 miles. Turned me off to the ceramics in general. I don't want to be left on a trail if the marbles come loose.
    Links to Boca:

I started focusing heavily on the stock bearings or at least an equivalent. Most of these idler bearings share a lot in common with alternators. EMQ, or electric motor quality, is a term you'll see a lot of during these searches. Essentially, this means the bearings have tighter tolerances, steel retainers, and higher temperature lubricant. Alternator outlets are about the best places to look. I never did find an exact replacement, but Maniac Electric Motors does have a B17-102dg38 bearing for around $18 each. I'm not sure what the 8 denotes, but I'm sure it would be a good replacement. I also looked through NSK's catalogs and engineering manuals, but couldn't determine all of the stock specifications.

After looking at the on the shelf options for high speed bearings, I came across these Timkens:
    63032RSC3 - https://www.qualitybearingsonline.com/63032rsc3-timken-deep-groove-radial-ball-bearings-17x47x14mm/
    62032RSC3 - https://www.qualitybearingsonline.com/62032rsc3-timken-deep-groove-radial-ball-bearings-17x40x12mm/

They have some of the highest limiting speed and reference speed ratings that I could find in an on the shelf bearing. I've been a Timken fan for OEM replacements, I put them up there with Koyos for my preference. All in, these cost $70 delivered from Leeds. 2 day delivery time. We'll see how they last. Freed up enough to buy a shiny reservoir if I was so inclined.

When my OE bearings start failing I'm just going to replace with either Timken bearings or NTN and not analyze too deeply into it. If it lasts me just 60K I would be really happy with that for aftermarket replacements.

On that note, Happy Holidays gents, and a very Happy New Year!

I’ve got the exact same set up. Anything better would be air on board with a tank. I’m very happy with it.

Yeah, that’s for sure. It would’ve been an easier decision if I could find identical oem pieces. Ceramics were a nice distraction, I haven’t had need to research them before. Just didn’t like the idea of replacing reliable parts with just any off the shelf bearing. I figure others will be coming up on their replacement timelines soon as well. Hopefully this helps.

Does anyone in here that has done an e-fan conversion have a stock fan/fan clutch that they want to get rid of? I have a 2nd gen 2.7L with 245k miles on it and I want to replace the fan clutch for preventative maintenance.. Let me know if you've got one and what you would be willing to take for it
