I have read that they are cats in the pipe bomb. Need to verify.

Those links from @JacksonTacoma are incredible. Those AFE CAT's are not holding up well. Glorified welder stated his literally shit the bed in 1 month.

 

@JuanitoBunito and I have Vibrant 7101’s. Seem to be working fine.

 

I always thought they called them a pipe b0mb because they were cherry bomb mufflers.....You'd think they'd have to disclose if they were cats as they would need to be replaced periodically.

Also they say they're not cat's on their website: "Catalytic Converter(s) Included: No"

 

I went with the Vibrant high flows. For some reason Amazon allows it to be shipped into CA. Got a shop to make them bolt on with the right flanges. Good to go.

 

Wow. They won’t typically ship there?! Time to visit AZ.

DT y-pipe is resonators not cats. But probably irrelevant to your problem. They replace the rear cats, he's probably saying your front cat is plugged.

Also those say 3" piping, how did you get it to mate to 2 1/4 header exits

 

What exactly is the Cali smog check and how is it done? Also, shit is that strict on you guys that you can’t even have certain things shipped to you from the manufactures??!!

 

I'm guessing just a visual check. But who knows. I've been on the lookout for a 'guy' I can go to and pay a little extra for him to 'not notice' my mods lol, but no luck so far. And yes, Commiefornia is that strict.

 

I think for vehicles or trucks? less than X years old it’s visual only. My ‘11 only had a visual. Actual sniffer is older vehicles, If I recall.

Hence why my shorty header may sound a bit loud when I get around to it.

 

Not a bad price on those. Maybe straight pipes will end up falling in place of the cats though...

If I didn’t need em, I’d have URD long tubes all day! I just don’t want to dick around with o2 sims because I know those will end up causing me headaches. So I did shorties instead and highflows.....
