For us California guys with the stock airbox and stock exhaust manifolds and cat converters it should be fairly straightforward, just take the PDF printout of the TRD Supercharger with the CARB EO # printed in it to the state inspection to make their job easier and the rest should be smooth sailing.

When I have my state inspection again in two years I will have that paperwork ready.. after I throw back on the stock air cleaner of course.

Most smog guys don't know what the hell the difference is between OE and aftermarket pulleys nor do they care to identify it because the only thing the description states on it is that it is a 3.0" pulley. No PN's at all, and state inspections do not physically require the technicians to remove the serpentine belt and bust out calipers to measure the size of the pulley either. That would be ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time. Also, because there are not many supercharger equipped vehicles that roll through their shops often, so the knowledge on them is that much less.

@JuanitoBunito the state of California conducts their inspections in a very methodical way, all looking for very specific emissions control equipment that came with the vehicle from the factory. And it is all listed in black and white for the officiating technician to see. There are many on screen prompts the tech must follow as the test progresses.

The 2001 and newer vehicles get OBD plug in and a visual inspection. That's it.

The reason why "turn the other cheek" technicians are so difficult to find is because the penalty for a technician caught "clean piping" a vehicle or running fixed tests is so massive and expensive that their very job is on the line. Not only that, the shop that they work at also can be heavily fined, or even shut down as well, so there is sort of a "double jeopardy" situation going on when it comes to fixed tests, or clean piping vehicles.

Oh yeah I know. Lol, trust me. I was a state inspection guy for 4 years. A lot of the rules and regulations were crap, but it's not about complying by the rules, it's about knowing how to play the game.

I know it is. It is absolutely stupid. This whole CARB EO # bullshit is exactly that. It's just another way for the state of California to get money for high performance parts. If a company is not willing to go through the "stringent" approval process to get a part EO certified, then sorry, next. As previously mentioned, it doesn't matter if the part turns the pipe emissions into clean potable water, still illegal, sorry Jimmy.

Needless to say I play the game, and I play the game hard. ;)

No need to take in paperwork if you posted the supplied decal under the hood :

Get a sticker...$10 at the dealer but takes week or so to get one printed from Toyota. I had to order one and go back for my last Smog. But somehow it passed the first time 2 years ago, some shops need to see a sticker but they don’t check pulley sizes

I’ve herd some people don’t have any trouble with piggy back ecu I’ll try it in two years at the next one.

    Keep it registered outta state.

They would fail you spectacularly. Lol.

And the boys in there used their mall crawling mobiles to bring plenty of wood pallets to keep the fire going.
