TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Dont know if all headers require stud changing. If they do. PLEASE do yourself a favor and have a stud removal system on stand by. @crashnburn80 will likely agree.

 

Did we change the studs? It was such a blur/PITA I think I blocked the details from memory.

 

Trauma does that. Yes, uppers. One drivers side stud cost 3 hours.

 

I did mine with a little socket that fit the torx head and it took all of ten minutes for all the studs.


Albeit my engine was out of the truck at the time. I think that might be the secret. Vise grips work wel on a pesky stud if you need to as well. They aren’t being reused anyways.

 

Yes, vise-grip and lots of hammer. Had a problem child.

 

Yeah environment is probably the number 1 factor. Even though I’ve accumulated a lot of trail time over years, 1 year of salted roads can be more corrosive than a decade of trails.

 

Yeah I think the plan will be to go with the y-pipe and sims, get that installed pre chopping my truck in half, and if I decide I need headers, I’ll still have time to do that.

 

This mornings temp vs booost. Wish I was really making that much.

 

Cruised at a nice 10 psi for a bit this a.m. 45 degF and not as humid as it was yesterday. Humidity is also a detriment to boost. Takes up space for air molecules. This 2.5", fpr mod, and TRD tune is actually pretty good. New valve body shifts really quick. Feels like a new truck.

 

Valve body, regear, and anything with the sc makes these trucks awesome.

 

What valve body did you go with?

 

Wholesale Automatic Transmission out of Australia. Got it through Cruiser Brothers. I'll add one to my Land Cruiser too after the turbo.

 

I have not heard of that one before.....Interesting.

 

Did you get a picture of what parts came in the kit before you installed it?

 

When are you doing the right-hand-drive mod to go with that down-under shift kit?

 

May we inquire what did it set you back? and did you have to send in your factory VB?

They send you the VB, and then you send yours back for a credit. This is not a cheap decision, but I felt it was better than a couple of springs in a cardboard box. I bought one of the ebay specials and that just seemed like the wrong answer given how much I had already spent on the truck (don't tell my wife). I had already purchased a LRA gas tank from Cruiser Brothers and found them to be good guys with quality products. This is what they recommended.
