No shield as I had to modify my intake due to rubbing on the intercooler. But the modification does shield it more than in its original location. 9075CB1A-8073-4577-9CD2-B7A05D18D479.jpg

But like I said, it’s not a consistent problem other than the fact it only happens when it is cold and rainy/ wet. And once the truck is warmed up and it gets a few high rpm pulls, it runs fine and won’t happen again even if I continue driving in the rain.

Ever since I flased to the OVTune I'm getting some strange RPM rises between 4th and 5th on my 5AT upshifts. It's random, but I'll get ~1000rpm rise before it drops and shifts into 5th and locks up. Sometimes it'll hang on to 4th and not upshift, sometimes it'll upshift normal, other times it'll have the RPM rise.

I never have heavily loaded shifts into 5th, it's always when I've achieved my desired cruise speed before it shifts, so it's a light load condition.

I have always experienced flaring in between 4 and 5 on my AT. I have OV V2 tune now and am going to look at beefing up the tranny with an aftermarket valve kit.

Yeah that a good idea, unfortunately for @Voodoo Rufus he already has a level 10 valve body replacement.....Hopefully that get sorted out. I know when I had 35" tires on stock gears I battled the same issues constantly. Re gearing helped immensely with the shifts.

This never happened on the UCON or the base TRD tune (albeit I ran that a short time).

I’ve always had this, before supercharged even in some cases. It doesn’t happen all the time now with the ratiotek kit and the ovtune, but sometimes it happens.

Mine happened more in “underpowered” situations. For example, more noticeable when I pulled my trailer, small and lightweight, but pre S/C. It was to the point that I couldn’t use cruise control at all. Now with the S/C there may be situations, towing at high speed with an uphill gradient, but more often than not the S/C gets the engine over speed enough to shift into OD.

That's really odd, but if I were you I would shield it anyways if at all possible. The URD design is difficult because it is so exposed. The shield helps immensely in the rain though man. Like you would be surprised.

That's not good because tune or not you now have a slipping issue which is creating excessive heat on the clutches which gives you a higher chance of damaging 5th gear clutch.

Can you flash back to the TRD Tune and see if it goes away? I'm willing to bet that line pressure parameter values were accidentally reduced on the OVTune which is causing a less than desirable pressure between shifts causing the excessive slip.

Yeah I have the shield because I used it before relocatin to this position. Gonna be chopping my core supports out soon enough so I’ll see what kind of room that gives me for shielding it some more. And like I said it has only happened at start up or the first bit of driving. Even if it is pouring rain, if I’ve been driving for 20+ min it won’t happen again.

Yeah, I'll flash back and see how it behaves. I'll be REALLY pissed if I fry 5th gear's clutches.

Following up with Mat as well.

In hindsight ovtune should have only worked with our FI 4.0 Tacomas first. And worry about all those NAs later down the road. Whatever happen to ovtune?

This will cause the back end of sensor to stick out a bit more, correct? I don't think I have room in current setup but I will have to find better spot with new Y-pipe.(if that ever happens)

Mat says he changed nothing from the TRD tune as far as the transmission goes. Looks like I'm doing a fluid drain and fill for caution.

That will fix nothing. Even a flush will not.

Almost 25k on the blower setup now. Can't hurt.

If my TX clutches are headed downhill, I guess I have three options. Upgraded rebuild kit ($200 for parts), built transmission from IPT or L10, or sell the blower. F it.

Selling the blower will not remedy that problem either. Take it from a guy who had it both before and after the blower. Don't sell the blower, it will not solve any issues you have right now.

I am willing to bet something is wonky in the tune though. Revert back if you can.

    Will do tonight.

Although....sell blower, sell truck, sell STI, sell STI parts, buy GT-R or other fast toy. Win.

John at IPT said the same thing to me about shift flair when I got my valve body done. Basically said if you had it it likely wouldn't go away. I've had it intermittently on my truck starting around 30k miles and before SC
