I have a manual box in this Hilux.
Hmmm so what size pulley would you consider before I have to upgrade the fuel pump?

Ahh, so you will need a race spec clutch most likely. There are a few in here who can chime in on that. @TRON for sure has one.

What size would I consider before a fuel pump is needed? 3.0 pulley. Lol. I'm serious. The pump is that garbage.

Straight answer, it will run with the stock Tacoma injectors and a 2.5 pulley, but it is not very safe. The fuel injectors will be at or near maximum duty cycle in a wide open throttle, high RPM situation.

As far as the fuel pump is concerned, I do not know what size the Hilux pump is compared to the Tacoma, but at those power levels I would recommend upgrading the fuel pump to have some safety margin.

I have already had a heavy duty excedy clutch and have had the gear box fully rebuilt with strengthen gears with full spline. So plenty strong enough there.

Haha... well that really sucks. I was hoping there would be enough fuel pressure to get just that little bit more power. I’ll have to make some enquires here on a fuel pump upgrade. Was kinda hoping for minimal costs but not always the case hey.

Most of us upgraded the fuel pump before we ever added a smaller pulley. When you look at the Tacoma fuel pump physical size compared to any aftermarket pump, it is very tiny in comparison.

Ah ok. Not that I know what most fuel pumps look like but I just install a 153L long range fuel tank to my Hilux and obviously I had to take out the fuel pump and to me it was actually a fair size pump. But as I said I can’t compare it to anything else. I might have to do some research one the Hilux pump and what you guys have in the Tarcoma. Maybe I might strike it lucky and the Hilux might have a slightly more powerful pump.

I can post you a picture of what the OE sized pump looks like and you can see what it looks like for comparative purposes. The one for the Tacoma is ridiculously tiny, it's sort of insulting even for non boosted guys.

Shit! That’s a serious fuel system. Yeah from memory my fuel pump was bigger. I’ll see if I can find a photo of it. I could wrong as it was a while ago but I’ll have a look.

Hmmm yeah I have had a look and yeah the Hilux pump also looks small. My mistake.
I have made some enquires as to where I can find a higher output pump.

Yours just might have a larger pump. If there are aftermarket OEM replacement online shops, that carry the fuel pump assembly for the Hilux, it might just have the fuel flow in LPH as well. State-side if you search through www.rockauto.com the Tacoma pump is listed with fuel flow.

You'll want a minimum of 255LPH for overall safety margin. Luckily, your truck already has an external fuel filter, unlike our trucks.

New question to field to people. I've noticed that with the TRD or OVTune that it takes 2-3 seconds for the truck to decide to go rich when on boost. I can be making 5-6psi and have to wait for it to enrichen. Once it does there's a noticeable pickup in power, but with the higher temps in summer, I can induce some mild pinging (90F+). Mat has said that's just how long it takes for the ECU to do it's load calculation to determine whether it should be in closed or open loop, but I think this is far too slow. I think this goes back to the system not having MAP as an input (don't need it in NA application), but I wish the ECU would get with the program quicker. I don't like to tip toe around boost unnecessarily.

It depends at what position your foot is in the throttle. There is a particular pedal depression threshold you must surpass in order to get power enrichment (PE).

Last time I got a clutch installed, the guy put the stage 2 clutch plate in backwards and it was toast within 2 weeks. I needed my truck back asap so I bit the bullet and took it into Toyota for a stock clutch install, and got bent over without so much as a sweet nothing whispered in my ear. $$$$

Not looking forward to when I have to go through that again lol. Probably going to be more selective of the mechanic I take it to, or who knows...maybe do it myself. I have the tools and ability to learn, just not the best space to be dropping a trans in.
