How could blown up trucks come back to him. Its not like he will offer a warranty to your toyota engine

Probably only a warranty on the parts themselves

No, but the turbos directly affect the engine drivability, and it is a major engine mod, therefore if someone grenades their engine, they will come back to him and he will have to prove that the grenading did not happen due to turbo activity.

If you sell a major kit like that and do the tuning in conjunction with it, you just inherited every follow up issue that the vehicle develops after which are directly tied to those mods and the drivability of it. It's one of those unspoken warranties (even if he does not offer one) of the automotive industry.

I get you, but legally speaking they don’t exactly have a case if they agreed to his disclaimer or whatever

No they do not, but the power of bitching is a compelling thing. That of which this race has so expertly mastered after the inception of the internet.

Release of liability I'm sure is part of it. No chance my motor would get replaced had his tune messed it up.

You would think so, but what I have found is that as much as you think that waivers and disclaimers etc. etc. protect you, some extremely determined individual will find a way to pork you with a cactus, without lube.

The 3rd gen group of dudes (most still under warranty, so they are still on that parade of BS) are a whiny and determined bunch.

I don’t know, my 1987 Toyota pickup with a factory 22RTE did 380k before I popped the headgasket. Id call that a pretty reliable turbocharged platform...

In reality, OV doesn’t have deep enough pockets to properly develop a turbo solution for the 3.5 that will be reliable. Most independent tuners just don’t have the resources or funds to make it a truly reliable product. But therein lies the rub. Most people who purchase these aftermarket kits aren’t knowledgeable enough to realize this. That’s why they are seeking out this type of product.

It’s the age old adage of fast vs reliability vs cheap, pick two.

The age old addage. I agree. The trio cannot exist under the same umbrella.

380 is impressive regardless! My major question for you, however, is how much severe duty did you really do in the truck or was it more of a daily, get around, sort of "beater?"

I consider my junk a high performance daily get around "beater."

Redline cam, ported intake manifold and many, many trips to mountains towing jet skis or sno sleds. It’s was used well. But it was also maintained well.

    Full disclosure:
It was my pops truck he purchased new in 87 and I got in high school in 92. I totaled it in 94 head-on into a 68 Chrysler Imperial. That sucked.

Everyone was sharing gauge pictures a few days ago and I really wanted to get in on it, but was waiting for a new coolant temp at the time. So now that it’s installed...

ha yah, Kelford did respond and said he could squeeze me in but im second guessing it as most of you said. I need to see how the SC is out of the gate. Cam gears seem easy enough. He also responded and has a set he can send me ready.

yah makes sense. I would have to buy the TRD version anyway. Running the N/A now which has been great but as you noted no quick customization.
