poking ant hills or yellow jacket badminton. all fun and games. hell, I'd be feisty if I bought a new truck and found it had zero power mod support.

Alright experts. Why would my truck be stumbling with the fpr mod?? Only happens under medium load when accelerating. Light cruising or stomping on it and no issues.

Swapped back to normal and stumble is gone

TRD tune, 2.8 pulley, URD y pipe and exhaust, stock headers, AFE intake with snorkel, 255 fuel pump. Never had issues before. Did the fpr mod last night. Outside of the stumble it runs great but stumble is getting more frequent under the conditions I described. 90-100 degree ambient temps. 5000-6000 ft elevation. Engine temps between 180 and 194

I am wondering if you are flooding the engine with fuel maybe. Trd tune is rich with the 2.8, and the fpr is going to make it more rich in boost. That is my guess, but I am no expert.

You are drowning in fuel. No reason for you having the FPR Mod with only a 2.8 pulley at 5000ft elevation. Plus the snorkel is restricting your air intake

How bad is the stumble? On a 2.8 pulley the FPR mod is actually too much for it as much as it should be run that way, the TRD tune just douses the cylinders with too much fueling, so in your case I think the issue actually has to do with the simple fact that despite the smaller than OE pulley your fueling in OE tune form is just making you pig rich under throttle at midway accels.

Just to give you an idea, the Tacoma PCM does not stay in closed loop fueling under certain throttle parameters especially once PE begins.. by hooking into the FPR mod with a 2.8 pulley you are not only dumping fuel in open loop mode at part throttle, you also have Catalyst Overtemperature Protection mode activated, which adds up to 40-50% more fuel, and then on top of that your fuel volume is increasing 1 psi per psi boost past normal stable fuel pressure levels, as the fuel system is now boost referenced and fuel pressure is now variable based upon how much boost you are currently creating at the manifold.

As much as I hate to say it, until you are properly tuned with HPT to support the FPR mod and the variance it creates in fueling, you have to remove it because it is washing you out in part throttle situations. It's simply more fuel than your system wants to see and can handle and it will foul out your plugs incredibly quickly if you keep it that way.

good point. I recall someone saying it was bad for non forced induction or could be so I never installed mine. who knows where I read that but it got me to hold off.

I was always under the impression that it was good for a SC. Given you check and clean it out and it does not cause issues as you said keeps that crap from going back in. not urgent but maybe ill add it back on the list.

Not really. It's just a bling part and opens up some options as the fittings and adapters which you can add to them become standardized with the new rails.

Aside from that, you are local to me, so as soon as they see aftermarket rails they will fail you so fast it'll make your head spin come smog time.

The rails are not a bottleneck in this fuel system setup, it can support much more horsepower than we can run through it. The only thing which actually is, is the pump itself and the injectors once you too them out, which even myself at a 2.3 pulley am not running the boost referenced fuel pressure regulator.

Would you go with the e85 for the option later if I decide to go that route or just the high flow version?

got it. Bling is extra. Sounds like I need to at least get the fuel pump and larger injectors seem to be good choice. going with the TRD spec be ok to start? seems like going to to 600 would be better. just got my 2.5 pulley so looking to ensure I got everything in place. Looking at the 320L fuel pump as recommended.
