TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Been looking at both @Roostfactor and @BillDaCat8 wrap mods and most likely @Roostfactor will be easier for me to get going.

If I go that route which belt would be the best to use with a 2.5 pulley. Looks like @BillDaCat8 is needed for the RPM with OE Length but was unsure if @Roostfactor (although noted) is ok on the OE size belt or not as there is a extra note by @12TRDTacoma that he recommends the @BillDaCat8 version.

 

Anyone use OBDinnovations version of techstream? Saw some reviews and seems to be supported well on 32 and 64bit systems. I emailed them to see if it has access to the TRD tune or not. Looking into this or the 2 day tech subscription paired with a OV tune dongle (mainly because I have access to one).

OBDinnovations seems to have a decent dongle deal as well.

I tried to use the 2 day techstream. My cable was not compatable for programming. I I did find the trd supercharger file.

+1. The only issue with attempting to run his though is that it is not a straight plug and play install. It requires some lathe work or work with a drill press.

Also interested in the pulley link. I tried finding one based on the cars listed in the op and had no luck. Maybe my searching skills need some work..

 

I share your interest, but don't think he provided any direct links - just a description "Audi/VW 1.8T timing belt idler. It's 40mm dia". Also, @12TRDTacoma is correct about it being a non-plug & play solution that requires some lathe work...

 

I bought the $30 ebay kit with the cable and cd with a hacked techstream file but the cable would not flash the TRD tune. However it would read the ecu cal, wrote the VIN, and disabled the seat belt chime.
You can download the latest techstream software version for free on the site. Just need the real cable and 2 day subscription

There was a thread on TW somewhere about putting brake pad grease on the bottom of the pads. (borrowed from Subaru OEM instructions I think) The pads seem to drag. Also adding a second brake pad spring works for some people too. Factory only came with one but you can put in on on both top and bottom no problem. I've been ignoring my squeak for over a year now. But I did have the shop confirm pad thickness on the drums just in case, which was fine at the time.
