Wondering what everyone thinks about Toyota's factory TRD skid plate? Seems to "finish the look" of TRD taco's but also appears somewhat flimsy. Best price I've found is $169.00 at ToyotaPartsstore.com.

I just climbed under mine the other day and noticed how flimsy it really is. i guess if your not rock crawling or going thru heavy brush then it wil do its job as far as kepping mud and small debis out. im sure there are some stouhter skid plates out there tho they will cost a little more

If you plan on needing a skid plate for anything that TRD one is not the way to go. If you just want to "finish the look" like you said...Go for it.

If I wheeled hardcore I'd like something better for rocks/logs and such but since I have prerunner & don't do that much stuff offroad where it'd matter, I'm OK with it. Works great on hwy debris, lol. Might even make the blunt ass front end microscopically more aerodynamic for that extra 1/100th of a mile more mpg on the frwy too. :p The crap ass folding tailgate is basically decoration as well so they kinda go together.

I have a non-TRD one and its basically worthless, other than looks. I wanted to take it off and paint it but as usual, there is one bolt that is not cooperating. There is always one. I will get it when it warms up a little.

It works, and it's better than nothing. I've grinded mine out on some rocks and it seems to do an okay job. I do plan on upgrading it sometime soon though.

    My mistake!

Now I have a question... If my truck is TRD Off-Road, then should my truck have the TRD skid plate or was it an option?

No, its an option. I mean some of them come with the TRD skidplate but thats just because the dealer put it on after they got the truck.

The Downey one was badass. Too bad they don't exist anymore.
