Here is a thread I would like to start.

I bought my 2016 BBP DCSB TRD OR Tacoma on Oct 5th of 2015. I traded in a 2010 DCSB 4x4 Base model i lifted, larger tires, bumpers, DVD, Navigation blah blah blah. This truck had everything. Toyota have me a great price and home I drove in my spanking new 2016 Tacoma.

Fast forward 1200 miles. I week long trip to Mammoth CA, whole fam jump in the truck off we go... All the way there I feel this truck is hunting for gears. Mountain passes we go over 2nd or 3rd gear. MPG's 12-15 I hated this truck, It was lazy and gutless. After threatening to trade it in on Tundra I decided to keep it.

Fast forward 2000 miles. One night 2 of my friends and I decided to hit Bandimere speedways CPS Test and Tune night and do some 1\4 mile runs. Friend #1's duramax (Tuned and mods) ran a 15.1. Friend #2's F150 ecoboost (Stock) ran a 16.4. My Tacoma (Stock) did a 17.6. Prius right before me did a 19.1 or something like that. My Tacoma could not even brake loose the rear wheels, pushing the brake and letting go. Not even when its wet out.

This was very disappointing. The truck felt SLOW and very tight. So I just decide to keep it, forget about the "slugness" of this truck and enjoy the creature comforts.

Fast forward 40,000 miles. My perception of this truck changed completely! My gas mileage improved from 12-17MPH depending driving habits conditions to 17-23MPH depending driving habits and conditions. I can cruise along freeways in 6th gear at 60-75MPH easily. I can brake the tires loose off the line launching off the brake. Donuts are a blast weather on snow, mud, dirt or tarmac. I honestly started falling in love with this truck right around 30,000 miles.

I posted a you tube video to a you tube account I dusted off and re-opened, my Taco doing a 0-60 mph run. Tell me what you think, subscribe to my channel, please! I am hoping to post many more Tacoma videos as well as YZ450 trips to Maob\Taylor Park and some Yamaha Super Tenere Videos for the street.

    Keep it friendly,

Did the 1/4 mile time improve now that the engine is broken-in?

Is it standard or did you put auto in "S" mode? Sorry, I don't know what BBP means!

I actually forgot to mention that. I am planning on going with some friends to the track when they open on 4\25. My butt dyno say it most certainly improved but we will find out for sure when we go to the track. I will keep you folks posted.

I would guess it does about a high 16's. low 17's

It was in "S" mode yes, but honestly, leaving it in Auto or putting it in "S", I dont think makes a huge difference. BBP is just short for Blazing Blue Pearl, the trucks color. (-:

I’m going with 16.5 Try ALSD also if you are planning several runs. That might help net a quicker run?

This reminds me of a modified 2 stroke chainsaw motor as it gets more efficient as time goes on. As more tanks are buzzed, it improves in power, speed, and overall efficiency. This 3.5 V6 is doing a lot better than I read about here originally. The transmission isn’t that bad either. Feeling stoked about the powertrain at 2500 miles. I can just imagine 40,000.

Thanks for sharing. You just reinforced my experience. Made a thread about my experience a while ago . 3rd gen Tacoma’s are like fancy wines. They get better with age

I downloaded one of those silly 1\4 mile aps to see what the truck will do in a 1\4 mile but I am yet to use it. Weather or traffic or just an open stretch of track.... I may just have to wait till 4\25. But i am getting excited.

After driving 1,600 miles from NY to TN and back loaded gear, dirt bike and Jeep on a trailer behind, I can most certainly say my truck feels more powerful post trip unloaded almost as if it broke it in thoroughly!

I downloaded an Android 1\4 mile tool. just to see where the truck is at and here is the average I got over 2 runs.

    0-30mph - 3.59sec and 31m (meters)
    0-50mph - 7.58sec and 112m
    0-60mph - 9.59sec and 166m
    1/8 mile - (201m) - 12.10sec @ 69mph
    1/4 mile - (402m) - 17.05sec @ 83mph

Seeing as though a Nissan Armada (5.6L V8) did a 17.1 sec 1/4 mile the last time at the track I am pretty happy with those numbers. We will see how many runs we get in on the 25th.

Is your truck stock still? What elevation were you at? Any wheel spin? Isnt 9.59 0-60 just as slow as the Colorado dmax? I ask because a lot of people on here said the diesel sucks because it’s so slow...lol I thought we were closer to 7.5 0-60?

Edit: Sorry for so many questions haha

    OP’s list problems:

    1. Lives in Colorado and is looking for power / fast quarter on a off road truck.

    2. Originally thought that the truck was “gutless”.

FYI, in parts of the country where you dont require an oxygen mask due to elevation, a properly driven Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 DCSB auto, has been 15.4sec @ 91mph in the 1/4. Which is by no means slow for a truck of that size/specs.

I am still a little unsure as to what exactly ECT does. I did not know it would be better(or worse for that matter) turning it on or off. Maybe at the track I will try that.

ECT wont do anything at the track. ECT makes a difference during regular driving conditions. It changes certain characteristics of the trasmission and trottle maps to improve response.
