Probably shouldn’t post your opinions on this thread.

4.30 would make a huge difference in an automatic just running stock tires for sure, probably close to a 30 percent increase in power. If I wasn’t leasing my truck I would definitely buy these off of you.

Unfortunately I think you missed the mark again bud. I’m all for opinions but to say that 4.30’s are a pointless upgrade from the 3.90’s was where you lost my interest.. you’re running a modified rig where 4.88’s make sense as am I but these would be perfect for someone not wanting all the things we put on our truck.

Still available? Is it safe to assume that these will go in ANY e-locker? I have an 09 and honestly haven't paid much attention to the newer trucks.

If you install 4.88 gears in a completely stock Tacoma AT you will STILL have a taller final drive ratio than
a MT. In fact you could go to 5.29s (if they were available) and that would essentially match the final drive ratio
of the MT (3.0682 vs 3.053 for stock MT)

A stock MT Tacoma with 4.30 gearing has a final drive ratio of 3.05
A stock AT Tacoma with 3.90 gearing has a final drive ratio of 2.267
An AT Tacoma with 4.30 gearing has a final drive ratio of 2.494
An AT Tacoma with 4.88 gearing has a final drive ratio of 2.8304

4.30s would definitely be an improvement over 3.9, especially if you are never going to increase tire size. If you plan on ever upping
your tire size, 4.88s would probably be the way to go.

The front gear will fit but the rear gear will only fit in the 2016+ with the 8.75” diff.

Not that I'm trying to be nosy, but these + one of the AT TRDOR rear ends available in our area would really make your truck a Race Truck... and cheaper than the set of 4.88's I first suggested.

Im contemplating of doing this upgrade now, Im running 33’s with my 3inch ARB-BP51 lift on 6spd Manual and it just feels sluggish. It sucks on gas and just lacks power. I feel like I’m living on 4th or 5th gear even on the freeway.

@SearArtist, might you want to chime in with your personal experience running 4.30's in your AT?

Here is a post I made a day or two ago:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4-30-vs-4-88-on-an-auto-with-34s.531417/#post-17023513

I'm probably one of a few people running 4.30's with an AT, if not the only person...only because @Trident904 was so kind to swap diffs with me when he got his 4.88's installed and it was cheap enough that it was a worth doing.

I'm on 285/75/16 S/T Maxx's which spec out to 32.91" - about as close to a real 33" tire as you can get.

Here are my thoughts: with the factory gearing, bigger and heavier tires, and the AT - the truck is definitely slower to accelerate and you run much lower RPMs especially in 6th gear on the highway. Since I do a lot of highway driving, and the interstates here are like a roller coaster, my truck was constantly shifting between 4-6 gear...not really a problem, and fuel mileage was still good at 17-18mpg, but it was annoying as hell.

I tried the SSP, using ETC all the time...nothing really made it "better"

Now, with the 4.30's installed the truck is far better than it was with the factory tires, in terms of acceleration and overall drive-ability. It is no longer sluggish to accelerate, and I can hold 6th gear on hills now since the RPMs are increased just enough to not really need to downshift. If the hill is steep enough it will still downshift into 5th, but rarely does it go into 4th like it did before.

IIRC 6th gear at 75mph is like 2000rpm.

IMO if I didn't do so much highway driving, I probably would have just saved up for 4.88's and an ARB front locker...but the 4.30's work perfectly for me and my situation.

You might not be so lucky to find someone with a MT willing to swap diffs with you like I did, however, you can find OEM 4.30's for sale if you search around. You still have to pay labor to get them installed.

The 4x4 shop I called to get an install quote said I would need the front gears as well or the driveterain would lockup in 4x4 - this appears to be only the rear gear?
