Nissan ditched the Nismo off road name plate for Pro-4X, and available on both Titan and Frontier.

Check out the issues posted on some of the Nissan forums. My wife and I researched all trucks including the Frontier and I decided against the Nissan due to some auto trans issues that did not seem to be improving over the years. Many customer compaints of Coolent contaminating the transmission fluid with no help from Nissan corporate was enough to concrete my Toyota decision. It seems that since the Nissan/Renault partnership thier Quality has slipped. just my .02

Both trucks have their +'s and -'s but in my eyes the Taco is better because it looks better and the Frontier's interior has too much plastic. The Tacoma has a lot of plastic in the interior too but at least Toyota tried to make the plastic look nice and not so cheaply made.

I currently have a Frontier KC but on the hunt for a 4 dr Tacoma. I am happy with the Frontier but i need more room inside. Not to mention I do not like my local Nissan service manager.

In my opinion, the Tacoma has a better stance than the Frontier. Also, the Frontier does not have a good turning radius. Don't know why but even stock it takes some getting used too.

Both are good trucks in their own right.

Maybe you should ask this exact same question on the nissan forums I'd like to see how many people would say TRD.

I have owned both, although the Frontier was a few years ago. The frontier was more utilitarian. The bed rails are a nice touch instead of just the cap rails and the sliding bed extender is nice as well. Locking tailgate too. The Tacoma is safer, lower overall cost of ownership. I think the styling is better and the storage pockets in the bed are nice. No bed light though??? (Toyota please correct on the 2012!) The Tacoma is roomier and at 6'2 I need it. And there are way more parts for the Tacoma so be it 4x4 or street truck you can do it.

Not that it really matters when it comes down to it, but, those frontiers are butt ugly, in my opinion anyway. I think nissan made a good truck where it matters in the mechanics but I like my TRD 4x just fine.

Ya I don't mind the look of the Nissans, and reading their standard features, it seems to have pretty much everything comparable to a new Tacoma.

Seems to have an ATRAC equiv, has a locking rear diff, 6 foot box (in access cab), etc.

Comes standard with a few things the Tacoma (I believe) does not. Heated mirrors, block heater, bed rails, locking tailgate, etc.

They also claim they have much higher fuel economy with a higher powered engine.

That being said, the downsides have been mentioned. A lot less popular, and less reputation, so the resale is signifigantly worse, especially as the miles climb. So this is good if buying used..same truck for cheaper, but bad for when you want to sell it.

From the research out there they don't seem to quite have the reliability of the Tacoma, but I'm sure its still way above the domestics.

Being less popular, the aftermarket sucks for them, and the forums don't have the wealths of info the Tacoma ones do. Just about anything that can be done to a truck has been done and documented on these forums.

To be honest I don't think you can go wrong either way, but on doing my research, I ended up with a Tacoma twice. Both times I researched and chose the Tacoma over the Frontier.

I think if you found a great deal on either truck, take that one.

I have ZERO brand loyalty and every single research I will do research and pick what I feel is best. Riding dirt bikes, I had a Suzuki one purchase, Yamaha the next. I drove a Chevy car, then 2 Tacomas.

    Good luck in your purchase.

I was dead set on a Frontier Pro-4x/Nismo for a couple years before I was ready to get a truck. Always liked this gen Tacoma since it came out in 05 though and I slowly started to change my mind as it was time to seriously start looking. Still do like them. Just like the Tacoma better.
