I've owned 3 Nissans and 2 Toyota's. I put 160k on my Nissan truck with no issues. I just liked the current Tacoma better than the Frontier. You can get a better deal on a Frontier for sure right now, but the resale is way better with the Tacoma. Your choice, both are good trucks.

I just got a 09 Pro 4X Frontier and I have absolutely no issues. I drove both the Nissan and a 08 TRD sport and I got to say the Nissan has more options, it was a year newer and the price was the same with the same mileage....ok so the TRD holds up better regarding resale but I plan on having this for a while so in the end I don't think there will be a big difference. and I agree the aftermarket is MUCH smaller but I don't plan on doing much more than a small lift, Skid plates and more aggressive tires so I don't need that much in the way of aftermarket. I LOVED my 1st Gen Taco but I needed the extra space. I am not brand loyal but I still am on the fence about which I like more, I just took the one with the sunroof and the awesome stereo. As far as the cross contamination of trans fluid and coolant from the reading I've done it seems to affect the first few years of the 2nd gens. Every truck has its problems, the second gen tacos have issues just the same as Nissan and I think they both make quality vehicles. I may in the future go back to a Taco but who knows in 5-10 years we may all be driving Priuses or Leafs with the way gas prices are going!

Very good unbiased post. I love my Tacoma but the two options you mentioned about your Nissan would have been nice on the tacoma, especially with what we pay for them.

    Each to his own lol.

I've seen a stock Pro 4X Frontier here, it's funny, it looks like I have a higher ride hight, only by a small margin, and the tacoma looks bigger...idk

    Truckophobic

Anyways, yeah the Nissan doesn't seem to have a much ground clearance out of the factory, than the Tacoma does with it's off-road package.

And imo, the interior is better in our trucks.

More like the Titan's rear axle is notorious for not being enough for the truck...

My brother just bought a 2011 Nissan Frontier Crew cab. Not the Pro-4x but a 4x4. I was there when he signed the papers and can tell you Nissan did cut him a great deal. Riding in both, the frontier is a nice truck. The interior is eerily close to the tacomas. The back is a bit more cramped but still ok. As far as engine goes, just by butt dyno they feel about the same. I do like all the extras that came standard such as the locking tail gate, bed light, and metal bed with rhino lining. Side by side the Tacoma looks bigger and in my opinion more intimidating. Wider stance and taller ground clearance.I did my research on both and went with the Tacoma even though its a bit more pricy, its more reliable and better resale value. Both are great trucks.

Now if I could just get him to agree to a race or a tug o war to put all this debate to rest!

Well find a nice spot for y'all to off-road at and see who does the best! A test of wit of both truck and driver :D.

Anyways, yeah both are good trucks and I had a friend that had one of the old Nissan Pickups from the 80s, the era when there only was just a "Toyota Pickup", and well he never had a single problem with it. Only problems I recall helping him out with was the battery dyng on him and that just needed a changing, it was a little 4CYL truck and was rather underpowered but never died on him.

I still see old T100s and early 1st gen Tacomas running nicely today.

My friend has a nissan and the one thing nissan really did right was they have everything tucked up between the frame rails. If you look under the nissan you could basically bolt a flat plate across the frame and have a completely flat skid. I have no idea why toyota felt the need to throw that crossmember and and exhaust crossover pipe down below the frame. But such is life.

We went and looked at the Nissan before we bought our 09 Tacoma. What I didn't like about the Nissan was the tiny back seats for a double cab. When we went to sit in the back the salesmen pulled the front seats all the way forward and my knees were touching the front seats and I'm only 5'10. Also the back doors were small. Also the bed area is tiny, but that's subjective if you like that sort of thing, we went for the long bed (Only option in Canada if you want the double cab auto.)

Yeah, it is kind of funny that the off-road Tacomas have the same issue. But at least they typically shit out when wheeled, not just driving down the fucking street like the Titans.

Exactly haha The Tundra rear 3/4 ton axle is incredible, Dodge Dana 80's are workhorses and Ford always makes a good axle. The titan's is just so...tiny...I'll admit I don't know how Nissan builds them, but I know a big R&P is needed for a big truck if it comes under stress.

I love trucks man haha that's why I got a Tacoma.

I really like the Frontier, it's a very nice truck. It wasn't my choice, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

I think it's sad that the domestic makes have abandoned this market segment, personally. Chevrolet's and Dodge's offerings are not serious contenders IMO, Ford is selling the same truck they sold in 1998 and it's going away soon. Kind of sad.
