TRD Off Road with Premium and Tech versus TRD Off Road with just Tech?

My dilemma was that the wife was agreeable to any Tacoma purchase so long as it had heated seats (premium pkg.). I was insistent on the 6-speed manual tranny, and I really liked Inferno. Well, it looked highly unlikely that I would get the manual with premium, but my dealer went to bat and hit a home run by finding a dealer in Memphis that had EXACTLY what I wanted on an ordered-for-stock truck. It took a month to finally get my desired trio of Premium (+ Tech Pkg.) without JBL (I'm OK with this), the 6 speed, AND Inferno. I'm a happy camper!

This is my dilemna as well but she wants it to be an AT so she can drive it also (I'm currently on a 5 spd WRX). She also wants butt warmers, dual climate and the JBL. Moon roof is not a deal breaker. We just got a 2018 TRD Pro and she doesn't really miss a moon roof (but love everything else about the Pro).

Premium + Tech Pkg. without the JBL. Wouldn’t be without.

I test drove a similar black Tacoma and played with the JBL. The salesman drove mine out of the showroom and we took a 4 mile test drive. He said this has every thing you want so we struck a deal. About a $3,000.00 discount. In and out in less than an hour. The stereo sounded like mud and I couldn’t adjust it to improve the sound quality. That was when I discovered the orange JBL was missing. Subaru tweeters and Infinity speakers sound great now.

A couple of weeks later I was looking at the window sticker and noticed it was supposed to have the folding bed cover. Back to the dealership with paperwork in hand to work out the mistake. They cut me a check for the sticker price of the cover.

I blame myself for the screw ups. While negotiating the Tacoma deal I was also working on the phone with a dealer out of Dallas who was making arrangements to pick up my Jeep Hard Rock.

I have a dealership in my area that installs heated seats for $400. They do at least one a day during the colder months I was told. So you always have that option assuming you trust your dealership.

I got the tech and premium for the cost off the off-road without either package. I’m happy.

    I don’t have leather,but do have blind spot,backing,heated seats,moon roof...but it is a truck!
All the extras are fine but I like the moon roof.my dad had an 87 4Runner convertible and I bought my first Taco as a 2000 SR5 with a moon roof.i prefer that option over everything else.
Biggest question you have to ask is are you going to mod? If you change the rear bumper you may lose some features and thus lose money.i bought my 2017 as a close out at about $6000 off the sticker so I can live with mods as I go along..

My 01 TRD OR Limited (I still have this truck) have the moon roof which I like. I'm eventually going to mod but I'm not going to mod anything that might compromise any safety features of the truck. Primarily, my future mods are wheels, tires, suspension and maybe some modifications to the bed that would make the truck mountain bike adventure worthy.

    Order one.

I'm from San Jose and placed an order in Nov and finally got one in April. I originally wanted the dcsb but it took too long so I got the next dclb coming in. I ordered through Freeman Toyota in santa Rosa. Best price for a Tacoma in nor Cal if you're willing to drive.

We're in San Ramon but actually drive up to Santa Rosa quite a bit to mountain bike at Annadel so the commute to Freeman won't be a big deal. I pinged them online this morning to inquire on Inventory they had to see if they were still available and for pricing.

    None that matter.
Maybe it changed in 2018, but I have a 2017 TRD OR doublecab with the premium and tech (no jbl or leather, but all the other awesome features) and have no problem with sunroof/headroom. I am also 6'1. Good luck!

I'm a techie so I like all the toys. But I've found having the cross traffic alert and BSM pretty handy to have. I got a canopy for my truck so interferes with over-the-shoulder looking.

Of all things, having a sunroof swayed me from getting a GMC Canyon. I had one in all my previous vehicles until the one before the Taco and I found I missed having one so had to have it.

I don't regret getting the premium and tech packages. I am coming off a gen 2 after 12 years and all the bells and whistles are nice...makes me feel like a real grown up during the week and the truck can still go play in the desert on the weekend. The head clearance with the moon roof can be annoying but I can deal with it. I went for the premium because I wanted the upgraded sound system and the moon roof. I had mixed feelings on the leather but, damn...it's a nice grown up interior. If you can find it I would get it. It's still a nice truck if you cant.

What ever you do, skip the JBL. The amp is marginal, and the speakers are total $hit. I ripped mine out and burned them.

I'll co-sign. They are the same door speakers the non JBL get.

I am there with you. I learned to buy exactly what you want or you will always keep wanting it.
I had a 2wd 4 cylinder, a 4x4 4 cylinder, and now a trd off-road(basic as it's what I wanted). I don't like BSM all that much. I am glad I didn't get an 18 with toyota safety bs either. My girlfriend has all that on her subaru and it is nice, but not something I want.

I got my DCLB with the Premium and Tech. Worth the cost IMO.

I dont mind having both. I dont like knowing I would miss out on anything afterwards. It hurts the pocket, but still. Better than being bummed out.

I just ordered a 18 OR DCSB manual with Tech and Premium. Yep, they are about impossible to find in the wild. I needed the sunroof, but the reality is my wife likes the heated seats and dual zone temp we currently have in a Highlander (ya I know it's silly). The other thought I had is that it's less then 10% of the purchase price to get those options, so why not? I beat them up pretty good on the price, so I feel better about it. I wish the manual came with JBL, but honestly, as been mentioned by others, there are lots of really good aftermarket options for audio. Can't wait till the end of June!
