Just heard from Lakeland Toyota (FL), refunded my money... there was already a delay/back order of a few TRD oil filters. They called (nice folks) and said, "Turns out, Toyota is now discontinuing the TRD Oil Filter"
    Just FYI.

    Per Toyota marketing:

"Delivers exceptional filtration, lower flow restriction, plus enhanced engine protection and durability. 100% synthetic-fiber filtration medium designed to provide the highest possible dirt removal efficiency with lowest possible flow restriction High-temperature-rated silicone anti-drain back valve helps retain oil in the filter to help avoid dry starts"

The 3.5 engine doesn't utilize an in the filter anti drain-back valve.

If you use the filter in conjunction with the TRD oil cap, two to three horsepower...

Then, of course, you've got the Pep Boys look alike panty dropper TRD CAI intake. That one needs no introduction..

I'm sure somewhere on youtube there's a video of 2 trucks drag racing, one with the TRD filter and one without

That's strange they'd stop making a filter that "worked so good"

Probably weren’t making enough to keep making them. The amsoil oil filter is almost identical to the TRD filter. I personally just use the standard oem Toyota filter

I guess I’ll phone my local track and cancel my entry for this weekend.

How’s a fella supposed to race a pickup truck, that was developed for racing, by Toyota Racing Development, without a race-approved filter?

    sheesh!

true.... true I read that that specific filter keeps the incline oil starvation to acceptable Toyota engineering levels too

It’s because there’s a spot on it you pre-fill with ceratec that comes out on steep inclines.

OEM = 50% efficient at 20-mircon. TRD = 98% efficient at 20-micron. That’s probably negligible. I like the OEM myself. I know Amsoil makes a filter they claim is 99% at 20 microns. Maybe that’s a reasonable replacement if this matters to you.

Nope. They changed the filter. No longer like the filter shown on the box with the rubber end seals

The ends are now simply a hard plastic plate. No longer have the rubbers o rings at each end. In fact nothing soft at all to seal. At least the stock Toyota filter has that soft like adhesive ring.

I picked up my shipment from my wife today. Was shocked when I opened the box. And they now say made in China.

    Good to know, thanks

Edit: I just ordered 6 TRD filters. So much for not spending money in January.

Alternative for those who prefer the advantages of this filter design (on Amazon around $18) and upgraded ring material over the standard Toyota filter. I think Champion makes this filter, the TRD (now the past), and the Amsoil version...

I almost did a panic purchase too, but came to my senses when I saw the $18 per filter price tag for those TRD filters!
