I'm pretty sure the the TRD OR has 17 x 7.5 +55 wheels with 265/70r17's.

I know the TRD OR hybrids have 18" wheels with 265/70r18's but I don't know the width or offset.

I have a TRD OR non-hybrid coming in tomorrow and I like how the 18" wheels look on the hybrid truck a little bit better and I wonder if it's simply the larger diameter tire or if the face of the tires is further out.

    Any help is appreciated.

I'm thinking or keeping an eye out for a set of the 18" wheels.

I bet the specs are similar to my Tundra Pro BBS wheels. Dig around on eBay and other sites to find the specs.

I have the same size tires.

I have a 25 hybrid off road with the 18’’ wheels. I’m just wanting to know why the difference between the two? Why the non hybrid is 17’’ and the hybrid is 18”?

They seemed to only want to give the new truck 265 or narrower tires. They wanted larger tires for the higher end models and there is no such 265/75R17 tire. So my guess is they upped the wheel to 18” and threw on 265/70R18 instead of the 265/70R17 from the non hybrid. Why they insisted on a 1” larger tire on the hybrid, who knows.

I suspect Toyota sticks with 265's it's due to mpg. I plan to stick with 265's or a max of 275's to maximize pep and mpg's (I plan to go with lightweight AT's regardless).

It's hard to believe they make two different wheels that look the same.

Maybe they will rule out the 17" wheels in the future.

Great idea. Found a listing on Ebay that clearly shows the back of the wheel.

    TRD OR I-Force wheels are 17 x 7.5J +55
    TRD OR I-Force Max wheels are 18 x 7.5J +55

We still don't know why but we know the sizes. :)

That is what I assumed it would be, but searching yielded me nothing. It is crazy how they would come out with two identical wheels 1” apart.

Agreed. For some reason they went to 18" wheels and 33" tires on the I-ForceMax trucks.

It was actually a question in my mind between the launch of the non hybrid and waiting for the hybrid to come out. They kept saying the off roads had 17”, but that all hybrids had 33” in 265/70R18, and every pre release photo of a TRD OR hybrid still looked like it had the same wheels. It had me puzzled because I was thinking either A) it is going to receive different wheels after launch and not actually look like an OR if it’s a hybrid and has 18” wheels or B) they’ll have to make a duplicate wheel so it is 18” and looks like an OR still…..

I thought surely it wouldn’t be option B. And then I saw someone list their wheels for sale and was shocked and had to do a double take.

It is strange and I'm still curious to the reason. I am liking the tire options a little better for the 17" wheels.... also seem to be consistently a little cheaper.

I have the 18's and wish I had the 17's for the same reasons and you have WAY more C/D load choices. The only D choice I've found that I like is a 285 70 17 Falken Wildpeak and I'm not sure I want to go 34".

Uggg you’re in Alabama… if you were local to NJ I would sell you my 18” wheels I took off my trd off-road hybrid at 500 miles. So practically new.

So your aftermarket 17” wheels fit with no issues on the hybrid Off Road? I was thinking maybe the hybrid has bigger brake calipers or something requiring the bigger wheel?

No I don’t but those boxes would only fit 17” wheels. Mine is 18” with the tires still on the wheel. Each wheel+tire is 66 lbs.
I just washed and tucked them away for now.

The 18" wheels on the Hybrid/TRD Pro/TH models is because of the bigger rear brakes.

17" will clear, but it will be close.

The 2024 Tacoma now comes with standard disc brakes, offering superior braking performance. Higher grades, including TRD models, feature an even more robust front brake package. Additionally, models equipped with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid system include a larger rear brake package, ensuring enhanced stopping power.

The fact that tires are still mounted does change things. I assume the TPMS was swapped over to new wheels, right? Just curious.

BTW, your truck is glistening in the photo in post #15. Please share any secrets. :)

That is a reasonable explanation. Did you read this somewhere or do you "know people".
