Awesome, I got mine from Toyota of Rockwall, but they DIDN'T have any and still DON'T have any. The dealer brought it in from Gulf Toyota of Angletown. Mine was made in San Antonio with the Tow Package as well. I picked it up on Sept 29, 2016.

Note the EPA mileage of 23 Highway

I think you meant 2015. That is where I bought both my Tacomas. Last one I dealt directly with sales director. Much better than some rookie salesman. Did they offer you the best deal? Curious how they treat you on service. After a few hiccups I try to avoid them. That and the fact that they are always trying to push their over priced filters on me. Did they push the nitrogen and vehicle shield on you? I refused both.

I would agree with the OP's observations. There are a handful of sweet spots at each speed range, but there are a handful of fickle spots as well that happen to be at speeds some/many people drive. I have adjusted my speeds slightly to avoid the fickle spots as well. I would guess pushing past the 75mph spot to 80+ would take it out of the fickle zone, but there are limited areas where this is acceptable/legal.

They can correct the fickle spots, but it will just shift them around like playing whack-a-mole. That will just make them annoying for other drivers with different habits. It seems like the solution would be to improve their 'learning' algorithm for individual drivers/terrain rather than an overall change/upgrade.

Yes, sorry I meant Sept 2015.
Wow, so far Rockwall Toyota has been beyond extremely good. I regularily drop in on my way home and have it washed for free. NO DEALS from them, I paid Full MSRP. They still can't keep Tacos on the lot, always selling them. Service is expensive; $70.00 for my oil change. I decided NOT to wait until 10,000 miles. I had it changed at 6400 as it was really dark and dirty. I will have it changed every 5000 miles even if I have to pay.

I got suckered for everything. Nitrogen in tires .... Yup ... total crap ... tires have never been consistent with pressures. Used my free Texas air and they are all perfect at 33psi all around.I bought every warranty too. 125,000 mile fix everything, 90,000 mile service, GAP insurance and 90,000 mile tire insurance. I travel to far North Canada once/twice year and wanted the get it and forget it policy.

I will drop it off next week for the 10,000 mile service. I will get them to check tranny oil, grease zerts, tighten u-bolts etc, and test auto shift tranny shifting concerns.

Wow, they love you. You know they use brushes on car wash, correct? Nice swirls on dark paint.

Did 75-80 coming home tonight with it in 6th the whole way, must be learning since I'm still under 1000 miles. This includes a few overpasses as well.

I don't have any of the low atf fluid symptoms either, hopefully I got lucky.

Was the trans acting this way with cruise control off. Did you have the trans fluid checked to see if it was low. Many people here are finding that the trans fluid was low

Many are also finding out if you set the cruise lower than 70-75 the transmission holds gear just fine. As for the loaner truck, its probably being driven by a variety of people so I wouldn't expect it to adapt very well to the different styles.

Whatever the reason, you got rid of yours because you weren't happy. Glad you found a truck that suits your driving style.

Transmission works fine for me and mileage is 19-22 mpg average, 2500 on the clock and no problems at all but then again, I almost never use cruise control.

I am from Colorado , drive a sport, had my atf fluid filled at 400 miles it was over a quart low and never reset the learning , I driving in and out of the mountains for snowboarding every week, I drive about 90-100 most of the way and I can report my truck shifts much less than around 65-75. I def don't use the cruise because it's much more fun!

I think I might be able to offer a little different take than many of the people here, as I live in a more crowded area where you rarely get a chance to use cruise control, and the roads are pretty flat. What I've seen is that having never used the cruise control, I can't recall it ever downshifting above 70 mph. I haven't pushed it past about 85 yet, as our speed limits only go up to 65. But not a single downshift unless I hit the western (NJ) hilly part of the state. Otherwise, once you hit top gear it stays there nicely.

Or wait until the defective transmission problems are resolved. I want an automatic and will wait until this bullshit is fixed. I can certainly wait until 2018 or 2019.

I filled my tires to 30psi cold and corrected the gear hunting. It still occasionally does it going uphill but severity has certainly decreased.
I would try that first among all else.

    Happy trucking !!

This might be a stupid question but only had my truck for a few day. While it's "D" how do you know what gear you're in?

I had my Taco in the dealership this last week for 10,000 mile oil change and shifting issues. I will do a proper write up tomorrow with what they found, what they did, and some resolutions.

I'm driving a 650 mile round trip to the western mountains this weekend so I'll play with the cruise control a bit to see how my truck responds. Just as my trip to the mountains last month, I don't expect anything unusual as the truck performed flawlessly and as expected.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
In a nutshell it looks like the transmission is compensating for the shortage of torque from the engine.

Has anyone regeared a 2016 yet?

I have pretty much the same problem with it not staying in gear and shifting way to much and way too soon. I have the 2.7 4 banger, so yes it doesn't have much power so it has to compensate on cruise control going up small inclines.
