I second that they scratch super easy. My most notable scratches are on the black flares. 303 is a good idea. I’m gonna try this on them tonight prob should have done it when the truck was new.

I used the Rustoleum spray bed liner on my 1st gen's flairs, mirrors, and front bumper valence. It looked great and wore well for the last year or 2 I had the truck prior to trading it in.

My only complaint, the spray stuff leave a few more "peaks" so it feels a bit sharp, kind of like sandpaper, for a couple months. It could grab and pull lint out of your towels when drying the truck.

I’m also of the opinion the flares scratch easily. I noticed light scratches after using a microfiber towel to wipe away tire shine applied by my dealer that was spewed all over the flares.

I think they are just soft plastic and like someone else said the texture doesn’t help with scratches. I Brush scratched mine really bad the first week I had my truck so I dont worry to much about them now.

Well this is good to know. I think I will keep using some Spray Turtle Wax Ice and see how that keeps them looking. When I run out of that, I'll do some research and maybe switch to something else. One I'll definitely look at again is a product called Wipe-New. CR tested it against other protective sealants and it was the clear winner.

I posted something about this. Maybe in the detailing thread? My rear flares are chewed up after a trip through Death Valley. The rocks from the front wheels kick back onto the flares. That’s probably why there’s a clearbra type film over the lower body panel. Really annoying. But. Whatever.

It’s give and take. They either make them a harder plastic which makes them less prone to scratching but more brittle and easier to crack. Or they make them softer plastic which makes them easier to scratch but more flexible and less prone to breaking or cracking off road.

Personally I’ll deal with some scratching so they’re less prone to breakage.
