I was happy with them, but ultimately sold them so I could get an LT set for deflating.

Sucks but that is just bad luck. Wouldn't matter what you are wearing nails will ruin your day.

Just for comparison, the wife and I had the same tires on our bicycles. She has never had a flat and I fought literally tooth and nail to keep mine from getting punctures. She is still on those tires and I think Ive finally found the right tire for me after different 3 sets.

I've gotten two rock punctures in the stock GY Kevlar tires...one unrepairable..rock went through the tread block. I'm now using the spare tire on the stock rim until I can find a different tire (currently looking at the Toyo AT2 in LT265/75r16 C rating). These tires don't handle ice very well...or mud...or loose gravel and sand (crawl control saved me three times from being really stuck). For me, these tires are horrible. I've got under 5k miles on them and about 500 of those were on dirt roads and trails. The only good thing I can say about them is they are quiet on the highway.

The OEM Goodyear is no worse than the KO2s I've run in the mud. For mud you really need a Mud Tire or much more aggressive /wider tread tire than the KO2 or most any A/T for that matter. The best all-around "aggressive" tire I've run is the duratrac.

I've got 45k on my original tires. One flat from a chunk of wire that I ran over somewhere. They've been much better than I expected and have been good in all the conditions I've put them through. I haven't put on new ones yet, I've got a few thousand left in them still.

I find it curious that nobody has mentioned load range or how heavy the KO2s are which sacrifices ride quality...
Of course that's for on-road manners and nobody here drives on the road right?? We're all off road warriors and hardly ever use these trucks for daily driving :stirthepot:

For the record: I driver really slow on the pavement so all my tires have worn very slowly. As an example, on my 04 Sentra, I got 60k out of America's Tire's cheapest tire, on two different sets.

I just passed 20,000 miles. I drive 16 miles a day on a busy section of freeway and city streets. My truck is always exposed when parked. I do a lot of off roading but most of my miles are driving freeways and highways to get to these off road locations. My average drive per off road event is 200 miles round trip on pavement. We do anywhere from 10 to 80 miles off road per event. Most of the places we off road have very rocky sections with sharp rocks. I air down to 18-20psi for most events. I cruise fire roads up to 35mph.

My tires have half of the tread left. I have some small chunking on the outside shoulder on a couple tires from spinning them in holes when in 4x4. I have not had any punctures or flats. I once had a valve stem release air after airing them up after off roading. The TPMS came on and I stopped and aired up at 20psi on the way home.

These tires are great on the road. The close spacing of the lugs in columns makes it drive very well on the road. I have made full power stops and the truck fires the ABS and stops very quickly from speed. The handling on pavement is quite firm and predictable.

These tires are fine for typical off road use. Sand, rocks, dirt, water. all fine

The only time I have been stuck was at 35psi on lake bed mud while it was raining. I was having great fun 4x drifting on a flat area of thin mud. Then we headed for camp and encountered several trails with streams spanning from side to side. I crossed all but the last and got stuck trying to climb out of the berm. I rocked the truck in 4x4 and got it to back up about 10 feet before giving up when my brother in law came to tow me out. I aired down in the mud while he was hooking up the straps so I wouldn't get going around the lake bed on the way back to camp. It was also dark by this time. This is the King of the Hammers lake bed, real deal mud. Took me hours to clean it all off the underside of the truck.

I've also had a complete loss of traction when in snow. I was following my sister in law down a snow covered hill. I was staying far enough behind her to stop. She hit the brakes when she lost traction and skidded to a stop. I pressed the brake pedal and the ABS starting firing. Tires, thankfully continued to roll due to ABS and I was able to steer it into the hillside to stop the vehicle. When the front wheel hit the hillside and stopped, the rear axle pivoted around the front about 45 degrees. Scary feeling. Backed out of the hillside after she recovered and coasted down. Got a run at the same hill going up and had no problems. The emergency braking caused the loss of traction.

I completely agree on the stock OR tires... do they look cool and aggressive? no. but they have treated me very well in all situations.

What tire pressure do you run at on the stock OR tires? The door says 30 cold, and my dealer keeps putting it there but it feels like they prefer to be more in the 34-35 range up to 36-37 warm?

I've had lots of tires. I usually change tires on a 4x4 first thing.... always have. As far as ATs go, I have tried BFGs, Michelins, Dynapro ATP, Generals, Destinations, and maybe some others I have forgotten. It was my intention to change the stock GY on my 17 pretty quick to get some AT3s to try in a bigger size. These tires are good enough that I want to spend the money on a few other things first. I hated the Firestones and the Dynapros on the road. The Michelins weren't aggressive enough and got stuck a lot, and the BFGs cracked very prematurely.

If these stockers were just a little better in the mud, I'd be content with them and would consider them again. That said... my next set will be Cooper AT3s

I am replacing these tires. I also have had two rock punctures (flats) and a quarter sized chunk removed on a high way that was unreparable. I also had an accident on a snow + ice covered road in 4wd when i coukd not manouver to avoid a car stuck in my lane. At 27000 miles, maybe 2000 off road, ive had my fill of them.

Ive had goodluck with Cooper Discoverers on previous Tacomas. Les Scwabe commented that these GYs dont seem to do well on gravel.

I sang the praises of this tire when I first got the truck, but at around 23k miles I'm starting to get some fairly significant road noise caused by cupping on the insides of the back tires (haven't checked the front).

According to the dealership they been rotated every 5k, the shocks are good, and the head mechanic said "just shitty tires".

Someone on here said it's caused by weak (tire) shoulders and possibly taking exit ramps too fast. I do that, so maybe that's the cause?

    Had Ko2's 285/70/17
    Wildpeak AT3's 285/75/17
and now the Ridge grappler 285/75/17

    all E rated

Ko2 had the best on road ride. Soft and quiet great off road as well but dig in on soft sand like dunes. excellent on wet pavement as well
AT3 were the best on sand/dunes as they float but are scary on road as they grab any line and will pull you off road or towards another car.
Grapplers are close the the Ko2 on road but louder and great off road.

so far I like the ko2 and grappler 50/50 with a slight edge to the grappler as I had numerous issues getting the ko2 to balance and had to replace several cause they were out of round

I don't have a 3rd gen but the dealer put a new pair of these on my truck when I bought it used and they lasted me 70k miles. Much like @smitty99 , I was hoping they would fail me so I could get cooler looking ones, but they did not.

I also have liked the GRs. They seem like a great all around tire. We shall see how many miles I get out of them but I imagine it will be pretty decent.
