Alright guys, so my buddy keeps running his mouth about his silverado, and "how much better it is" than a tacoma. He won't go trail running, mudding, or anything to really see what his truck is capable of but keeps insisting on a tug of war.

Now I am not a big fan of tug of war, I think its dumb and run a great risk for messing something up, but I wanted to know if anyone with a lifted tacoma has ever tugged against a silverado and what the outcome was

    thanks

Don't let him bait you. He has a weight advantage. Instead insist on some off roading including some drop offs where your approach and departure angles are better than his truck unless it is lifted.

If both trucks are stock he does not stand a chance.

Full sizes are good at towing and load capacity. They have every advantage, weight, power, wheelbase. Do not try a tug of war. Something on your truck would likely break.

The use cases are entirely different.

The Tacoma is good as a daily driver and weekend warrior. The Tacoma strengths by comparison are maneuverability, approach angle, departure angle, break over angle, ground clearance, off road traction control systems (A-trac, locker), being narrower to fit between off-road obstacles, and maintaining resale value.

Don't do it. His truck has more power and weight. I wouldn't do that with any truck. Seems like you could really mess something up. Tell him to cram it.

Why don't you guys just KBB both vehicles and watch him cry as his once $40K truck is now only worth a few thousand, while your $30K truck is now worth $29K.

One can never have too many light bars.
Your friend sounds like the type to get a spacer lift and 20 inch rims on his truck.

Hi Annolino122, I have a Z71 in addition to my Tacoma. Couldn't imagine doing without either one. Apples to ice cream comparison between the two. I wouldn't get talked into a tug of war with your friend if I were you. My Z71's name is Bitch Hog, for a pretty good reason.

Whatever you do, don't tug of war. This tells me that his definition of a good truck is the one that can tow the most. In that case, he bought the wrong truck, because there are bigger ones out there.

Unless we are grading trucks by our need and how we use them... But that's just crazy talk.

Tell him the Tundra towed a spaceship, and that your Tacoma is not for out-towing things. To keep it friendly and fun, maybe you can invite him to go offroading with you. The Tacoma will naturally shine if the terrain is rough enough.

To win the argument, just walk him to the front of his truck and point to the Chevy symbol. Then say, "GM."

So here's a fun fact. My friend has a z71 silverado, lifted 3 inches with some bigger than stock a/t tires and decided he wanted to come out with the tacoma crew to one of our offroading events. Not only did he have to 3 point the first turn into the trail. He didn't even make it up the first climb. With his head down in shame he and his girl then jumped in one of the other tacos and rode the rest of the day with us. True story a month ago. Just bring him to any type of good slick climbs or tight areas and he'll be done

Your truck will last 10 years longer with double the mileage. My dad owns a silverado and it feels like it's gonna fall apart everytime I drive it

If the trail requires any tricky turns or has some tight spots you will regret the Silverado immediately.

And then in 2-4 years you will simply regret the Silverado totally for a bunch of reasons.

OP - Tell your buddy to whip it out so you can both measure and see who wins. If that fails ask your women folk to decide which of you is really more the man.

Then tell him to shut up about his Silverado. Tug O War with pickups is childish and proves nothing more than "my truck weighs more than yours". Guarantee the garbage truck in your community will out pull his Silverado every day of the week - and it can't off-road either!!

Sounds like you need to find new friends. ;)
