Thinking of pulling the trigger and getting the the TRD exhaust. I want the one with the black exhaust tip welded on. I have a 2018 Taco with the 3.5. When I look up the part number for it, all i find that has the black tip is ptr03-35190 which says it only fit 2019-2020 Tacos. Question is what is the difference in this one, why wouldn’t it not fit a 2018? Does anyone know the OEM part number for a TRD double cab shortbed exhaust with the black tip for my 2018. Only other number I find is ptr03-35161 which is a chrome tip but I want the one for a black tip. Thanks in advance for any info

2019 may have just been the first year that the exhaust with the black tip was available. As long as it says it will fit your bed length, there shouldn’t be any issues. To my knowledge, nothing has changed in regards to the exhaust that would cause it to not work.

@sju350 The TRD exhaust is one of the mods that I want for my '21 OR. Just like you, I think I will drive my Tacoma for another year until I replace the exhaust. In addition, a TRD Performance Air Intake is also in my mind. Let us know how you like it once you get it installed on your '18 Taco.

Have it on my '17 DCLB. Bought the truck used and didn't realize it wasn't just a chrome TRD tip for the longest time. Put a deposit on a '21 back in April and while I really like the tone, I couldn't bring myself to drop $800 for it on the new truck. Likely to get it down the road though!

I paid $700 for the pro exhaust and TRD CAI a few years back.

@N3FOLMike i finally broke down and bought the PTR03-35190 exhaust. I already had the TRD cold air intake installed. But anyway ya I’m liking the exhaust so far. It sounds almost same at idle but when I give it gas, it just sounds a little deeper groan to it. People will prob think I’m crazy but to me with both of these installed it actually feels like it has just a slight better get up and go from a stop. Reason I waited so long to get back here to respond to this thread is because I thought there would be some 4th of July sales going on, so I waited. But all I seen online was $700 for exhaust, not much of a discount so I went ahead and just ordered through my dealer and had to pay like $855 for it and took about 45 min to install.

I waited till XMas time when TRD stuff usually goes on sale but no deals on exhaust. Mostly because of shipping. Finally ordered mine from dealer about $1K installed. Really like it, especially with windows down. I’d do the CAI if it would make a difference exhaust note wise.

Oh and just a FYI. In my first post I had asked about this for a dcsb truck even though I have an access cab long bed. I couldn’t find anything showing up for my access cab when I looked online but heard it was the same as the dcsb and I’m here to say yes it is the same. Fits just great. Only thing to mention is just a burnt smell to it after a short drive which I’ve read on here that it’s from the coating they put on it

While truck was warm I sprayed some penetrating oil on the two bolts and let it set overnight then used pliers for the rubber hangers and rest was easy. Nothing really to it

That’s good advice because the rubber hangers are tricky. Also keep the new exhaust tip wrapped in bubble wrap so as you install you don’t scratch it

    Question from the uninformed:
Do you need to have a retune after installing that exhaust?
    (I'm guessing you do not.)
I used to tune Harley engines and after exhaust/intake mods, their narrow band O2 sensors couldn't adjust for it.

No, no tune needed. No performance is gained. Just different sound.

Got the 2nd Gen TRD exhaust on my truck. Lots of different part numbers. I dug through all that to make sure I got the right one. I waited to buy mine at Xmas & it was only $400. This was right before Covid & the 3rd Gen ones were only $800 during that sale. I’d wait for any sale - it’s pricey. Also I didn’t get mine mailed. I opt’d for local pickup & had the dealer install mine. Shipping is fucked now a days & certainly wouldn’t get it ship to my house. You want the installer to leave it wrapped & don’t scratch it during install. If you got rusty hangers on your old one, ugh good luck. Totally worth it & would buy again. I’ll dig through my notes & see if I have those p/n’s
