The options are high on this car. Pricing-wise, it's not that different. And you can not really custom spec, so most likely you're getting packages.

Initially looking a TRD PRO - at 65k. I thought, "This is higher than Snoop Dogg on 4/20"

So I said let me look at an Off-Road Hybrid. Because I want the power. Option a TRD Off Road with a Premium Package and Stabilizer Disconnect. It's 58K. Now you add an Intake, Performance Exhaust, and Air filter (all standard on the TRD PRO), and you're at 60K. For that 5k difference, you are getting 33-inch tires, a 2-inch lift, Fox Shocks, a Steel Bumper, 3-inch wider track (1.5 vs. off-road), Premium Wheels, and Isodynamic Seats. Now let's say ok, I will add a lift, shocks, tires, and bumper aftermarket. Well, you're already at 65k, if not more.

So then I say, what if I get non-hybrid? Surely I can keep this under or around 50K with the options. Guess what that is? 54K?

Maybe I just wait for the second hand market?

And BTW, their configurator is the stupidest thing I've ever seen because they treat engines like different models

The turbo v6 version of the RAM TRX, the RHO, was just announced at $69k, which is a LOT more truck for the money. I’m not saying Toyota doesn’t have a good product with the Taco TRD Pro, but if there ever was a value proposition for it, that just got thrown out the window with the pricing of this new generation.

I'm told that anything that comes in with a bed under 6' is inferior by users here. The Ram Rebel is only available with the 5'7" box, so I don't know what to do now!

The only other truck I'd cross shop right now is an AT4x and that starts at 68k so quite honestly, I'm not sure why everyone is ragging on toyota here. People will make comments b/c it doesn't fit their budget and that's fine. I get it. My salary didn't increase 20% yoy either. But everyone needs to realize they're arguing about a top level trim. So expect 80k for whatever top trim pickup you get in 2024 or cross your fingers for some economic pain and hope for markdowns and TFS financing in the 2% range.

Are you talking 1/2 tons? Base AT4X is is $56540 with D&D, unless you are comparing to the AEV edition to match up all the "armor" the Trail Hunter has.

Nope 4Runner has always been more and still will be

the new 4Runner is a taco with a rear roof, a rear roof which costs money and the 4Runner needs to be shipped from Japan which costs more and Japanese labor costs more than Mexican labor. No way in hell 4Runner will be cheaper guaranteed

also the 4Runner will have the trail hunter as well so it too will have arb parts

I think GMC is having issues moving $58-67k Canyons. Dealers in FL and TX are discounting up to $6,000 on AT4X's. We will never see that on a Tacoma TRD Pro though. GMC even threw 1.9% for 36 and 3.9% up to 60.

This new pricing on the pro and trail hunter is a joke. Toyota gave a big middle finger to half of their base. I hope they eat a big one because of this.

This pricing is about where I would have expected it when you bring in inflation and the hybrid tech. Also there are a lot of things from the factory that were add ons previously (ARB bumper etc) that add a lot of cost to the truck. This design and cost is what made me pull the trigger on the '23 when I heard about the redesign.

Time already has shown us, they are not selling well. The discounts reiterate that.

Yep… having 3-5k on the hood not even 1/2 way through the first model year is wild

Anyone considering spending 65k on a midsize truck should also consider the new RAM RHO, which starts at 70k. It doesn't have fancy shock-absorbing seats, but it does have a 540 hp / 521 ft-lb twin turbo six and 8380 lb towing capacity.

It’s worth noting that probably fewer than 1% of Tacoma owners are interested in all the options and mods you listed. I’m not knocking that they are important to you, but the vast majority of a Tacoma owners are not on this forum and are not interested in most of those things. The Pro, or a very built-up OR, is a very niche truck. Toyota sells nearly a quarter million of Tacomas a year and overwhelmingly to people who enjoy driving them as is.

I hear you, but options are something they are interested in. And getting options like a sunroof, 14 touch screen, auto tailgate, jbl, etc. are really going to come with that 8k package since you can't order tailored trucks. This is where most of the price increases on these come from. My current truck has these options. I paid 31 (used, 1 yr old). So yes I hear you — not everyone wants a lift or shocks. But I'm willing to be most want some of those tech and luxury features or want some of them and will have to get all of them. And those that do regardless of trim - are probably looking at a 50K truck

As I said, I was completely ok with the price. However, I just received a call from the dealership that said they had the first one coming in. ONLY $15k over MSRP...

No thank you. I will wait.
