If you can find a used set of trd fox setup for under a 1000 it may be worth the buy, but 6112 will provide more lift. So it depends on what your looking for. There’s some feedback on this subject in the Bilstein 6112 thread In the suspension sub forum. Iirc you don’t feel a huge difference between the 2. Buy what is cheapest and what kind of lift you want.

I have the 6112 on the highest setting and completely happy with my purchase.

Helpful thread guys. Looks like this setup would be good on my 18 trd sport 4x4 dcsb as well. How about with this setup?

    5000# trailer occasionally
Shell for the puppies to hang out in 200#
    Some camping gear , 200#?
    Light off roading.
Id like an approx. 2” lift level.

Had the old 2” icons on an 05 dcsb and they were so plush. Ate up fast trails, never did big bumps. Not wanting to go too big on $$. Dont need to

Is $1600 with 2k miles too much? Or should I just go with the 6112 and 5160 w rear Dakar’s (which would probably come out to the same price)

    Yeah.
What do you want to do with the truck? Do you need constant 500# load capacity?

I think 1600 is a bit high for used TRD Pro Fox, but 2k miles is pretty much new. 1200 is top I would pay, assuming front springs are included. But I don't live in CA either.

Like I said 1000 and below is what I would buy them. At 1600 for a few more hundred bucks you can get a better setup. I always suggest 6112 if your mainly on the street and off-roading is in your interest.

Just my opinion tho. If you want them, buy them.

Food for thought... I had the TRD Pro suspension. I decided to go with a used set of Pros, because I figured it would be better to go with OEM gear. If you have any warranty issues (axle or steering related) it's less likely to be denied or blamed on Pro components vs aftermarket gear... never was an issue for me in reality, but felt like the safer option.

I finally switched to ADS when I added too much weight...

If you think there's ANY chance that you'll upgrade to "top tier" suspension components, I'd recommend you bite the bullet and do it now. Buy once cry once.

OH! And the TRD Pro suspension held its value extremely well. I used mine for about a year and just over 10k miles and only lost a couple 100's on the resale. About $1500 seems to be their baseline.

I purchased 5112s and Camburg UCAs with 5160s and Wheelers 3-
Leaf AAL for $1700 —all NEW. $1600 for someone’s used shocks seems excessive.

While Im sure the Pro's are great, for the price, I'd add the little bit more and go with something that has a little more adjustability. With that said, I tried to stick within a budget much less than a Fox level 2 kit so I went with the 6112/5160 Bilsteins for a little under $1100 shipped. Find your use, find you budget, and research the best setup within the means and order away.

I think you're on to something. Progressive ---> good for speed. The faster you travel, the more force/load/energy there is on the suspension from the SAME bump.

On a progressive shock, if you're not going fast enough, there are areas of travel on the shock that you will never see.

I think sometimes people imagine themselves in particular scenarios and think to themselves "yeah, I do that". And then choose a progressive shock. When the reality is they don't "do that" very often. And then are disappointed when their truck rides rough. Because they're generally never traveling fast enough over bumpy terrain to feel the benefit of a progressive shock.

Just because you "do that" once in awhile doesn't mean that's the shock for you. If you do that all the time, then yeah, that's the shock for you.

Or do I have this backwards?

I think you got it about right. However I think an adjustable progressive shock might be interesting. Turn it down when going fast, and turn it up when going slow

Progressive is digressive isn't related to speed for some that might be getting mixed up here. I know some people are already aware of this

When running over a speed bump (or 20 in a row) at 5mph vs 45mph, that wouldn't have an effect on which shock to choose-- progressive or digressive?

I'm not being a smart ass (hard to tell online sometimes). I'm genuinely interested. I'm learning here.

High speed vs low speed is relative to the shaft speed, not the speed of the vehicle . You can have a big hit at 25mph and a little hit at 75mph, or vice versa. It's measured in inches per second of travel. I believe 100-200 ips is the middle line between HS and Ls, but don't qoute me on that

    Yeah.
This is right, although not sure about the line between HSC and LSC damping either. Think about taking a curve on a highway, that's low speed compression even though traveling at high speed. Hitting a speed bump at 20 mph would be high speed compression, traveling at low speed. But, it gets even more complicated than that, since rebound can be damped differently than compression. Along with that, the damping can change based on position of the shaft as well as speed of the shaft.

According to the marketing literature, the TRD Pro shocks have more progressive damping as they move through the travel, with a bottom-out zone. This is a different kind of progressive than HSC/LSC damping, more like progressive springs. Based on other internet wisdom, it sounds like Fox usually has a more linear damping curve as related to HSC/LSC.

Anyway, they tuned the Fox Pro suspension to work as delivered, with typical loads and truck usage. If that's how if you plan to use the truck, it's probably the best option out there for a straight shock swap, if you can get it for a reasonable price. If you regularly carry 500# or heavier loads, or want to lift for more clearance/bigger tires, look at other options. On the low end, I would likely just do a full OME setup and call it done. High end, Fox or King.

Especially when I hear people grouse about their Pro suspensions, or even worse, they change to icon etc. That is way too much money on a trucks initial cost to then pay for “upgrades”.

This thread has me on the hunt for the following
Front 6112 with springs for 2-3”
Rear 5160 or 5100? Not sure of difference yet. Must be valving(will add shell at some point)
Aal for rear lift/leveling. Will occasionally tow 5000# trailer
Please point me to best deal guys!

I'd call all the dealers on the TW list and ask them what the best deal is they can hook you up with. They normally hook people up great

Oh! Oh! Please comment on your observations! Would love to hear how the ADS setup compared to Bilsteins or Fox TRD Pro setup. Thanks in advance!

I'd personally start with @HeadStrong Off-Road .... But others have personal experiences too they could add with other companies
