Oh I understand the suspension difference, but if op was gonna swap it out then it wouldn’t matter. Reason why I asked is cause people that were bashing on the people that were questioning the OPs motive in getting a pro made it seemed like there was more to the pro than suspensions (performance wise).

Was just wanting to know if I missed something when I chose the OR instead of the pro.

You mean to tell me that a that a “non functional hood scoop” doesnt improve performance???

Oh yee golly! Who would have thunk it!!!

    No shit it doesnt... lol.

Although you may not think the HOOD (not a scoop, a completely different hood) or multitude of other details that make the Pro a Pro are not worth the squeeze. The big majority of public does.

I knew you werent bashing the Pro, Bro. I just piggy-backed on your comment to further clarify to some that there is more to the pro, that just suspension or a “scoop”.

Its a money thing man. Most people with plenty of cash/income (or credit) will get the Pro. Those who lack any of the aforementioned, or is a bit more frugal, will have a pick of the lesser trims.

Now, if you take a minute to catch your breath, perhaps you can quote properly next time. ;)

I dont think people “siding” with OP were making it seem like there was more than suspension (performance-wise). People “siding” with OP were merely pointing out that there is more to the Pro than just suspension. Its an overall better product.

Not at all. For the price difference between SR5 and Pro you'd be looking at LT on 35s with air lockers front/rear. It's not even close with respect to off-road performance which is a decent focus considering what the Pro is. The better comparison however is TRD OR vs Pro for all purpose use. In this case as well the TRD OR is the better deal hands down. TRD OR with mods equivalent to price difference is more truck than a Pro every time.

Toyota's marketing at work here. Fair enough if the "Pro" name subjectively holds weight for you but objectively it's worthless. Maybe it generates a smidge of value retention, that's all I'm willing to concede.

Sure but whats your point here? If anything modifying a Pro digs you deeper in the comparison because you'd likely be replacing the very things that created the price difference in the first place. If the Pro to be compared against gets modded you would have to mod the lower trim even more (in addition to what has already been done) to get to back to a comparable state. This is just like adding 5 to both sides of an equation...doesn't change anything.

Just depends what you want. In terms of objective off-road performance a modded SR5 is a better deal. I'd argue in terms of objective all purpose use a modded TRD OR is a better deal yet again.

The Pro is for a very niche set of people that are willing to pay the very high price tag for the largely subjective enhancements over lower trims models. And there's nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.

Fwiw, when the Pro was first announced I immediately decided I wanted one. I was already in the market for a "fully loaded" Tacoma. That being said it didn't take long to realize that, for me, it's a complete ripoff compared to a TRD OR. The almost entirely subjective enhancements (Fox shocks are the only exception) just weren't worth the relatively enormous price increase.

    ^Well put^

A lot of smartassery could have been avoided originally by posting: bro, I bought the Pro because I like how it looks, but changing the suspension because I want even better.

The Pro is a very clever marketing strategy. In totality it is “better” equipped than the other Tacos. Remove all of the Pro specific parts and its’s same, same.

Anyway just adding my unnecessary $.02. On to looking for a Cavalry Pro, because Cement is so “17. Lol

    Enjoy the truck!

    Yes at all.

The blade cuts both ways, partner. Any mod done to an SR5 can be done to a Pro. And guess which one will be more exclusive, guess which one will hold better retail?

This conversation isn't about which truck is a better bargain or better deal, it is about which one is the best Tacoma, and that is the Pro.

You are right, it is not even close.

The Pro is the best off road performing Tacoma. Once you introduce mods and money into the equation, even a 99' 2WD ranger could be made out to be more capable than a Pro.

Again, you are getting confused. This isn't about which truck is the better bargain. You understand that the value of money spent is relative, right? What might be too expensive for you, might be "peanuts" for the next guy.

TRD OR is great truck, Pro is better.

Here you go again with the ricer comparison! Apples to apples, friend! You might as well go get you a '92 ranger and hook that up!

Compare stock to stock or modded to modded.

Self-justification at work here. Sounds like you are looking for ways to justify your purchase.

Wrong. It doesn't "subjectively" hold more weight, it factually holds more weight.

    Check this out!

    SR5 MRSP $27k - PRO MSRP $43.5k

Aren't we self-righteous? Lol. What you concede is irrelevant to facts.

See "apples to apples" example above.

Alright man, you win. Modded SR5 is the best truck in all the world. Who needs a warranty any way, am I right?

I mean, I wonder why Ford even made the Raptor? They should have known that an SR5 had them covered!

The value of your dollar =/= everyone else's.

Your rationale is about as insightful as the guy that thinks his 85' Iroc Z is better than a 17' C7 Z06, because he hooked it up and can go a bit faster in the quarter for less money.

FWIW, I own a TRD OR.

Damn people care too much. Guess what.... my buddy sold this truck for SIXTY 6-0 grand. Do that with an SR5? Nope. Not a chance in hell.

    We on Tundra's now?

Well I guess the Tundra has a Pro specific part. The stamped bedsides. Tacomas Pros are all bolt-on.

It doesnt matter 15 Pro's will always be the real MVP's.

Rarity...and I think they just flat-out look better. I think the end of the day the 15's will be the ones holding value over the 3rd gens. There is 3rd gen Pro's everywhere already.

I personally believe it does look better as well haha
Plus, the actual exclusivity of the inferno on the second gen body and it is considerably a rarer truck. Hardly see them listed for sale, and I have only ran into a few other 2nd gen pros here in SoCal.

Give it some time...I can see it happening. @BVita has the color that'll do it too.

I'm not saying tomorrow, but right at that next gen change or close to it. We are gonna see crazy high prices.

I'll admit, trade in value on these 2nd gen pros isn't so great. Private party may be a different story. But, at the same time, how many 2nd gen pros are listed for sale compared to 3rd gen pros? lol

I plan on keeping my inferno pro, spent too much time searching for it
