Just got word on my other broken spring. Toyota will only cover the parts and I am having to pay labor including alignment. That will be close to 500. Not happy about this, obviously, as these springs must be defective in their material or the design of their attachment as others have pointed out. And Toyota will not cover these replacements if they break again. My loyalty is seriously damaged after driving more than a million miles on 8 Toyotas. They know these parts are faulty.

P1070121.jpg Here is the driver side broken coil spring. The passenger side actually had a 3 or 4 inch piece break off.P1070121.jpg

And everyone complains about other trucks reliability, bad steel in the front springs indeed.

Eibach told me they only had lift springs not replacements. Thinking about someday replacing the entire Fox suspension. Any recommendations out there? Oh, I did write to Toyota about having to pay for the labor. May not do any good but I got my two cents in anyway. This really dampens my faith in Toyota quality and reliability. The right thing to do would be for them to issue a recall as everyone knows this spring setup is faulty.

If anyone is actually curious this is a known issue with these springs as they use a truncated end instead of a tapered end like most springs. This causes a stress point leading to failure.

I wonder if once the truncated end snaps off if the remaining spring would be OK to run with? I also wonder if the replacement springs still have the truncated end or are they pigtailed. One local guy at a 4WD shop told me his son has a 2019 TRD Pro which had the broken springs and his replacements now have 40 or 50K miles on them. So I hope these replacements have been improved.

We are having the same issue with our 2017 pro. Broken Fox spring and never off roaded the thing! If you don’t mind my asking: Who did you talk to at Toyota? Just go to your local dealer? Thank you

Now still waiting for the shocks and springs. The dealer service manager said they are coming from Canada through a secondary source. This is crazy. Toyota has no replacement parts for the Fox suspension? They make the Tacomas in Texas but the parts they use on the line are not available? This is just getting ridiculous. I was contacted by the national headquarters in Plano, Texas but the person handling my case had nothing to say when I told her this should be a recall. I am still stuck for the labor if the parts ever arrive. I am a member of Consumer Reports and will be sure to relay this Tacoma experience.

Funny you mention that , I just purchased a set of these for my 4runner and they have the updated version of the shock with a different spring. I was told its a whole part and they will just swap the whole shock with spring.

This will probably be my last post for this thread. My shocks with springs on them finally came after many weeks. They came from Montreal for some reason. They were listed at over 2000 dollars for the pair. They do not sell the springs separately for some reason. Unfortunately, we compared them to the broken ones after the mechanic removed the old ones and they look exactly the same. So now I have no confidence that they will not break after a similar mileage or time. The service manager thought that maybe corrosion gets in under the red coating and causes the spring to eventually break. Looking at my broken piece it really does not show signs of rust at the exposed metal ends. Labor cost me just under 400 plus the required alignment was about 75. I still feel that Toyota should have covered the labor as well. If they break again I will go to a different suspension not the Fox.

Eibach makes springs for several shock companies not just Fox.
